Debian / Debian On C1000 Questions
« on: January 04, 2008, 05:46:44 am »
Hello

I am using right now on my C1000 pdaxii13 5.4.x and I'd like to try use Debian EABI. I have some questions regarding my hw/sw I am using with pdaxrom it it will work in Debian EABI.
Hardware:
1) Billionton BT card to connect DUN with Nokia 6230i
2) Wifi D-link DCF 650 W
3) USB serial ftdi_sio kernel module
4) USB net with DM 9601E chipset

Software:
1) Justreader, FBreader with i18n support win1250 charset
2) Remote desktop
3) Multimedia ... movies ... mp3 ... comics reader?
4) On Zaurus developement (no crosscompile) (configure make make install) dev libraries - to recompile thinks I compiled for pdaxrom
5) Any emulators supported? SNES NES DosBox Zpsxe Hatari UAE FUSE( Spectrum emu) MAME etc...
6) Any 3D Games? Doom, Duke3d, Quake, Quake II, Aleph1 etc?
7) Any good fast PIM appz with eventuallly sync with M$ Outlook/Exchange (forced to use at work :-() or Google callendar for PDA capabilities?

What is main difference between debian EABI and Angstrom? Can I use libs/binaries from Angstrom in Debian EABI?

Thank you for answers

There is a successful experience, you can look here: http://www.hpc.ru/board/viewtopic.php?t=158612 (sorry, in russian only)

Thnx for info ... I can read a little bit russian, but they used Angstrom. I'd like to have it run under pdaxrom :-). Maybe (if I will have a time) I will try to compile hildon libraries and run binary.

just dont care if it is hardfloat or sofftfloat if it is eabi or armel or armv5te or armv5tel binary

It seems you completely missed the point of EABI, it's the new _standard_ by ARM ltd that allows you to mix hard- and softfloat binaries. There's a reason why angstrom and maemo are using it and debian wants to.

Maybe I missed the point, I am not developer. I'd like (and I think I am not alone) to understad all about this "hardfloat, softfloat, eabi, armel, armv5te, armv5tel etc" (can you explain please?) ... but my question is simple ... Can I run for exaple Garnet VM or any other Nokia binary on Z in any distro? If yes ... then how? if not then ... why? And I am sure if Garnet VM will be released on Windows Mobile (for Access it is only a bit of rewrite to other SDK) it will run on any WM machine. Do you catch my point?

Because I, for one, am too cheap to buy new gadgets on a whim. The Zaurus is also an almost-perfect platform, and there is much work to build off of, making development easier. Plus, those people who have started Zaurus projects (eg, pdaXrom) are likely going to be loathe to not finish them.

yes, and i've paid my zaurus so high that i would not sell it for a non better device  i really appreciate the form factor of the zaurus, the usb host, the keyboard and the screen (although 800x600 would be better). no device out there give the same high level of satisfaction for a so small device

anyway when you talk about pdaxrom do you talk about pdaxii13 too ?

OK I also think that Zaurus is almost perfect hw platform ... Do you want bluetooth 2.0? ... just buy new CF card. Do you want newer Wifi standard? Buy new card ... dont need to buy new device. Do you want Eth? You can use usb/net. etc. etc... What I see main problem of all linux devices on the market is _compatibility_. When you have WM mobile machine from _any_ vendor you can run _any_ application you buy/program by yourself and it will run as binary and you just dont care if it is hardfloat or sofftfloat if it is eabi or armel or armv5te or armv5tel binary you dont care if it is packaged in deb of ipk if it is qtopia or gpe or pdaxrom, that application just, listen just works! In linux PDAs we have only with Zaurus plenty of incompatible distros and I do not even speak about Nokia's maemo, Google's Andoid etc etc.... For small example. I'd like to run Garnet VM (Palm OS) emulator released for Nokia N770, N800, N810 on my c1000 in pdaxrom. And I just cannot! Why? I wonder if OS (linux) is really good when it is imposible for me to run one application binary on _same_ procesor on almost _same_ version of kernel on almost same hardware. Maybe it is OK on desktop where linux market is quite OK but it seems to me waste of developers time on small embedded linux market. What do you think? Are you satisfied with diversity of Embedded linux market?

Hello

Is there any possibility to run Garnet VM on Zaurus? Look here http://www.palminfocenter.com/news/8987/no...-vm-video-demo/ It would be grat addition to Zauru software as I personally think that Garnet (formelly Palm) appz are very good. They are fast, eat small amout of memory and there are gerat application Zaurus does not have. For example PIM application. There are Nokia 770,800 and 810 binaries for Garrnet VM. What do I need to run this binaries on Z. Hardware is quite compatible so it teoretically can be done. By above video emulation is quite fast!

What language is that in?  Translation engine I use needs to be told before it will work.

Thanks,

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Dosbox Package Issues
« on: April 19, 2007, 08:45:00 am »
Anyone can solve issue with unsync mouse stylus cursor? It is not only dosbox problem, it is general problem with all emulators I've tied. I had this behavior also in hatari, uae, basilisk II emulators. When I connect USB mouse everything is OK, with stylus is cursor out of sync. Any experienced developer can find reason for this behaviour? It would help much to run emulators on Z. Anyone knows about similar problem in PPC emulators?

Software / Kdepim Synchronization With Web
« on: April 18, 2007, 03:22:27 am »
Quote
Well, after much mucking about,
I have a sync solution which works with an online calendar server and is bidirectional.

It uses kdepim 2.2.7 (version matters as ical definition has changed)
and thyme 1.3, an online calendar server available from http://www.extrosoft.com,
if you'd like to use my calendar server instead of installing it, send me a PM.

The beauty of the method is that changes are synchronised nicely and it's all ical so can be accessed from Firebird, Apple iCal etc...

Ok, install kdepim, start kopi (after reset) and edit the settings in >>Synchronize>>Configure
   1.  Change your device name to zaurus
   2. Make a new profile, I called it thyme
   3. Set the Profile Kind to "Remote File"
   4. enter the following commands (I used wget first, then curl but I'm sure you could just use curl)

Pre sync (download)
   cd /tmp && wget  --user=USER  --passwd=PASSWD -N http://myserver.com/thyme/remote/ical.php/2/zaurus.ics

Local temp file
   /tmp/zaurus.ics

Post sync (upload)
   curl -u USER:PASSWD -T /tmp/zaurus.ics http://myserver.com/thyme/remote/ical.php/2/zaurus.ics

see: http://greenant.net/portal/greenant/wiki/K...ACalendarServer for a full description and links to the package
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=158308\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Thnx for great work .... Any possibility to sync thyme with outlook/exchange also?

http://www.konsigna.sk/default.asp?mtc=0&c...tem&stiid=20440 is working like charm :-)
Thanks. From the picture it's the same one as Geeks.com -  a bit closer to me.

Is the driver you're using the Davicom 9601 one discussed above?
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

that one looks exactly like the one i have and it uses the rtl8150 module. it comes in many different colours also. i got the blue and the green ones...

[a href=\"http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myOQO/myAccessories.jpg]http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myOQO/myAccessories.jpg[/url]

oops, I got a yellow one as well...
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=157861\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

My WK-668 USB NIC is in the same shape ...
but it uses Davicom DM9601 chip ...

and it's in blue

--wells
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=157870\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

pdaXii13 5.3.4 has rtl8150, dm9601 and pegasus modules so hopefully this will cover most of the common usblan dongles...
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=157872\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

5.3.4 is already availalble?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=157877\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

yep
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=157883\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

so ... where can I find download ling and changelog? :-)
thnx

i have updated net.agent to configure eth0 as well as wifi0/wlan0 as soon as they are plugged in.
it reads the config from /etc/sysconfig/network and /etc/sysconfig/wireless respectively.

by default /etc/sysconfig/network has DHCP=y so it uses dhcp, but you can change it to n and fill in the relevant details in to that config file if you want to manually set your IP, etc...

so far I have only tested that plugging in a USB ethernet adaptor works with this setup. have not tried usb wifi adaptors since i dont have one but the script should be able to handle that as well..

make sure you extract net.agent from the zip file and copy it to /etc/hotplug
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=157537\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

How /etc/sysconfig/network should lokk like? My has something like this:

root- more network
NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=zaurus
GATEWAYDEV=
GATEWAY=

and after plug usb/lan adapter I get ip address 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0.
Where is that information comming from?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=157857\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

something like this:

Code: [Select]
DHCP=no
IPADDR=192.168.1.2
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
DOMAIN=
GATEWAY=192.168.1.1
DNS1=192.168.1.1
DNS2=

192.168.0.1 is the default and comes from net.agent which provides default values if the required fields are missing or empty...
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=157878\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

OK foud out ... but there is still error in script
dhcpd won't do the work getting IP address from DHCP server

dhcpcd will but it is not working for only once...
when I unplug and plug again eth0 I won't get IP address.
maybe put dhcpcd -k in front of dhcpcd eth0?
