Gemini PDA - Linux / Gemini UBports
« on: February 16, 2023, 04:55:00 am »
I have not seem anything posted about this on any forum so just putting this here, it seem thekit has been working on porting Ubports to geminipda. He has asked if anyone is willing to help maintain the port?

I would put my hand up but I am learning about porting droidian to cosmo.

Here is the link to the repo on github:

The certificate is controlled by Planet so they need to update the certificate.

I let Adam know via telegram. The only way to update gemian is to set the date back to 18/10/2021 (10/18/2021 for our US friends) by doing the following:

sudo timedatectl set-ntp false
sudo date -s 2021-10-18

Then update the system. Then do the following to reset the system clock back to auto sync

sudo timedatectl set-ntp true.

Thats it.

Sorry I can't be more help.

I must admit, however, I'm having a great time with Stretch/Gemini. I use my Cosmo for my phone, so the Gemini is just for a Linux laptop.

I hadn't turned on my Gemini in a year, and now I'm using Gemian all the time. My poor Netwalker... This is what the Netwalker should've been.

Have a look here: https://github.com/gemian/gemian/wiki/DebianBuster.

That might help with upgrade to buster.

I used this one:

https://gitlab.com/ubports/community-ports/android9/planet-cosmocom/planet-cosmocom/-/pipelines/284408889

I used the rootfs.img from the flashable and the boot.img from the build and worked fine for more.

Cosmo Communicator - Linux / Re: phosh on Gemian
« on: February 17, 2021, 04:34:58 pm »
It may be possible but Mobian uses bullseye (Debian 11) code base and gemian is based on Debian buster (debian 10).

PureOS the original version of Debian phosh was created on from Librem is based on buster so might be worth a try.

Cosmo Communicator - Linux / Re: Battery/Power Conservation Strategy
« on: January 31, 2021, 08:58:51 pm »
So, I appear to be having a few issue with the custom kernel (cosmo-linux-kernel4.4).   The Codi display stays stuck at the planet logo once mobile data is enabled / Network Manager is removed. Also, I am unable to answer calls via the open cosmo screen by pressing accept.  Any one else dealing with this?

Outside of that the power usage seems to be ok.  I started using the device today around 9am with moderate usage and I am at about 32% usage now at about 17:29PM.

I haven’t uninstall network manager. Try and reinstall Network Manager, if I remember correctly codi needs Network Manager installed.

Great to see that power saving is improved.

Let's us know how you go with the new kernel and if it improves powering saving, it would be good to get a comparison. If I can get decent power saving I will start to use gemian as my daily.

Have a look at the guide that @AdamBoardman put together.

The packing kernel includes some extra modules that I wanted. Also includes some tweaks that seem to help.

I did a test last night with my Cosmo, in standby over 9 hours the battery went down only 30%. I made the following changes:

-install tlp and ran tlp start before going into standby
-installed cpufreq and set governor to powersave (sudo cpufreq-set -g powersave)
- Turned off Wifi
- Compiled new kernel from gemian github site using the packaging branch.

I hope this info is helpful.

Codi is now working with the latest build of ubports. I have been running it for the last 2 days.

Great work from Notkit and Adam Boardman.

The codi-app is is installed to /home/cosmo/.config/autostart/codi.desktop, you have to copy the same file to the same location of the user you created.
