Can you recommend the best PCE ones?

"Blazing Lazers" is my fav TurboGrafx shooting game, but I have been unable to get it to run in the emulator. (blazing.pce)
"Galaga 90" works fine though.

libsdl_1.2.5-slzaurus20050731_arm.ipk
libSDL_1.2.6-zports-5_arm.ipk
libSDL-image_1.2.5cvs-1_arm.ipk
libSDL-mixer_1.2.6-zports-0_arm.ipk
libSDL-net_1.2.5cvs-1_arm.ipk

What is strange is that if I run any of the emus from the zemu front end they work fine and the controls are fine.

When I run from a terminal (in magnified mode) using a script the screen comes up OK but both the joystick and the keyboard are reversed!

I really want to get ZPCE running with the joystick because everybody I know recons it had the best shooters - and I LOVE shooters.

Can you recommend the best PCE ones?

yeah you are running the libsdl sports and a few your not suppose to at the same time.  like libsdl_1.2.5-slzaurus20050731_arm.ipk and libSDL_1.2.6-zports-5_arm.ipk.  these two are the ones that causes rotation problems.  So run libsdl_1.2.5-slzaurus20050731_arm.ipk in for terminal and the other for zemuex.

Sorry to seem stupid but how do I enable and disable various libraries for different applications?

Or are you saying I need to uninstall them both and run one when I want to run the front end and run the other when I want to run from terminal?

Also which are your favourite shooters for the PCE that run on the emulator (if you've tested any)

Hi,

As always thanks for the help!

I uninstalled both libraries and rebooted.

Then I installed libsdl_1.2.5-slzaurus20050731_arm.ipk

Still get rotation problems from the terminal but the front end works fine.

Uninstalled libsdl_1.2.5-slzaurus20050731_arm.ipk and rebooted (Hey I normally work with PC's I reboot a lot!)

Installed libSDL_1.2.6-zports-5_arm.ipk and rebooted

still get rotation problems from the terminal but (you guessed it!) the front end works fine.

I am CONFUSED now.

Any chance of a version of the front end that looks for the script?

Stephen

Hi Cresho,

Sorry to keep bugging you on this - I know you probably have a life.

I understand if you can't help with a version of the front end which looks for the PCE script and thanks for all the gaming I've got going now!

Hi,

First off, awesome job on the emulator, Cresho. I installed the lastest version last night and am really happy to see the genesis emulation is working now, with sound too. This really is a piece of work and a fantasic way to demo the power of the Z to the laymen.
But there  were a couple problems I had that I am hoping can be easily resolved:

1. <b>Saving the game doesn't work</b>, whether through the emus save state or the game. I am hoping this is an easy fix because games like Shadowrun and Starflight on the genesis require saving. I followed the installation instructions to the 'T'.

2. <b>Crossed Swords for the Neogeo doesn't work</b>. Not sure if anyone else cares if this one does.  It's a 2.8mb rom.

Does anyone have any comments on these two problems I am having?

Thanks,

Andres.

okay, The save state does work.  Look at the bottom pick for referance.

you first select the save from 1-9 and then you hit k to save.    if you want to load the state, use the number you used to save and then hit L to load.

some emulated  games will loose audio but will regain the audio when you jump a level or go to another chapter or what ever.

Hi Cresho,

I had tried saving like that but it didn't work. I get an error, "Couldn't save ... " when I use the save feature, using it the way you've described above. As an experiment, I tried saving a game using a rom from my internal drive, an ext3 partition, but that did work either.

So any ideas? Maybe I need to look for a settings file and see where the saves are saved to, change that ?

Thanks,

Andres

I don't know if this contradicts what Cresho says, but when I wanted to use the "Save" feature that is built in the Phantasy Star games, (Genesis) I had to relax permissions to this folder:
/home/zaurus/.dgen/saves/
and/or
/home/zaurus/.dgen/ram/

One of these folders is for the ingame save feature of Phantasy Star, the other is for the Emulator's "Save state" feature.
I don't remember which is which, but I have games saved in both of these folders.

Before I changed permissions to this folder, I couldn't "Save" in Phantasy Star at the builtin save game points.

Sounds like permision issues just like jon stated.  If you have problems with commands in the terminal, ill post a command that will enable full write access to that particular folder.  could be you are using ext instead of fat32.  Could be you modified your z as an advanced user nullifying my standart setup for stock rom due to a different configuratin....something which I highly doubt.  It should work!

Let me know what you come up with. or if you need a hand if perm issues aren't resolved.

Hi Cresho and Jon,

It was permissions. Those directories werent there, I had to create them. I used a chmod 777 to get it to work. Seems too work good now, passes a few tests at least.

But, any idea why Crossed Swords for the NeoGeo doesnt work? Just curious if its an easy fix, i am not requesting any sort of code changes.

Thanks a lot dudes! The help is greatly appreciated.

create a swap file.  launch it once.  it will fail and then relaunch it.  it should work just fine.  MAN!  how did it not create the directories for dgen?  I'll  I keep getting homework assignments over this and ...ohh well, i think ill revise a new version with joystick support and add a script to create the directories manually with perm fixes.  Going to takea  while.  anyway, have fun.

crazy thing is most people do not have these problems.  I;m just wondering what is causing the erratic behavior.
