1. The german keyboard layout has no '?' or it is hidden somewhere.
( see https://www.oesf.org/forums/inde...?showtopic=9878 )

Thank you, will be fixed in the first hotfix.

2. Kino2 doesn't play my video files that played well on Cacko 1.21b (Mpeg4 with mp3 sound).

Can you upload your videos somewhere, so that I can try them?

3. There is a warning message whwn I use iwconfig:
---
Warning: Driver for device eth0 recommend version 18 of Wireless Extension, but has been compiled with version 15, therefore some driver features may not be available...
---

This is not a problem, you can ignore the warning.

Thanks for all the answers, mas, very nice. Would you (or anyone else who feels confident on the subject) recommend a particular codec set for encoding video to play with kino2?
Any chance you'd get Postfix to compile on the Z?
For Windows I can recommend PocketDivXEncoder - very easy to use program to rip and convert DVDs directly into DivX AVI. Recommended settings are described in kino2 help file (I assume you've noticed that is has a help file

I went about installing a crappier version of libSDL on my 860; now I want the old one back! What version is it and where can I find it? Piro's page is a bit hard for me to read...

Remember that whenever you're updating something in the ROM you're (in most cases) just overwriting a symlink. Original SDL lib is located in read-only portion of the ROM. You can restore by creating a symlink:

Code: [Select]
/usr/QtPalmtop.rom/lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0.0.5 -> /home/QtPalmtop/lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0.0.5

Yes you can add to the FAQ

Made the donation, hope more will follow suite.

Some observations on the new ROM, will try to provide updates in the future, would you prefer to have the Word file?

Some areas appear much faster

Eject/Insert card(s) at switch-on appears to have gone, making it much quicker to start using the Zaurus.

No spontainious reboots so far.

Like the new battery+ applet, pity you can't see battery status when charging.

Still can't connect to the Internet via mobile phone using Infrared.

Any idea how you make Textmaker the default word processor AND make it open with the selected rather than a blank document.

No, you can post heer or in your original topic, I'll be updating my page accordingly.

Unfortunately as far as I know Textmaker doesn't accept a file name in command line, so it can't be made to open files when clicked on. Any other issues  with textmaker should probably go into Software forum or TextMaker forums.

Anyone get the Pretec wireless card to work?  I can't for the life of me, and I followed every suggestion in this thread.  It is listed by iwconfig, but I can't get online or even ping my wireless router.  I've tried DHCP and manual setup.  DHCP gets no assignment and never connects.  Manual is connected (I assume cuz it's manual), but I can't even ping the router.

Finally, I want to stick with Cacko and will purchase another card if need be.  Can someone suggest some cards they have had good luck with?  Ones that don't require a lot of work to get going.

Hi Mike,

Not sure if this can help but I also experience problem connectiing to the internet using the mobile phone via infrared initially but managed to get it done eventually. What you can try is that after configuring for a irda connection via Network, try connecting to the internet from the Netfront browser. Meaning is invoke the Netfront and it will will pop up the Connection Prompt and choose the irda connection to connect. This is the only method that works for me.
Not sure why, but other methods (eg. via Network applet) seems to be broken.

What's weirder is that the appearance settings applet doesn't detect the default wallpaper, either.

Thanks for all your codec and software recommendations, I'll take a look at those.
Funny that the only DivX vid I had on hand refused to play properly
Try to  check/unckech wallpeper option ins Appearance settings. Also check "Shade Font" option to make characters white instead of black as on your screenshot.

Anton:
Great work on the new ROM, decided to give it a try as I miss a few features that I can't recreate in pdaXrom, yet. I'm now really torn between the 2 ROMs. If only there were an easy/quick way to switch between them like X/Qt.

I'm going to try the X/qt-Debian route for a bit to see if it marries the best of the two worlds.

Meanwhile I left a message in the Cacko-Wellenreiter thread about some missing icons and screen rotation issues if you're interested.

Again thanks for sharing your great work.

Cheers,

When on battery power and with the lowest brightness setting, the screen turns off after resuming from a suspend. This also happens after I disconnect my Zaurus (in USB mass storage mode) from Windows XP. Then I have to plug in the AC power to get the screen back.

I've already tried increasing the dim light time in the Light & Power settings, and also tried unchecking the box, but the screen still dies on me in the above situations.

The problem disappears if I increase the brightness level. However, after disconnecting my Zaurus from Windows XP, the screen dies for a few seconds before coming back up.

Also I've also noticed that suspending and resuming times are slower than with Cacko 1.21b. Presumably because of the more complex scripts involved.

Pressing Fn+4 should bring the screen back by increasing the brightness.
