Hi, just wondering what System Memory and Internal Flash usage should look like on an SL-5600 with a clean install of GPE. I think I've got some pre-flash stuff kludging up /.

I had installed e2fsprogs to the internal flash along with libreadline and an updated libncurses - anyone installing stuff like that to an SD card? Obviously I couldn't install e2fsprogs to the SD I was about to format...

Thanks for reading.

Hi folks. Installed e2fsprogs and the -mke2fs component via ipkg from the feed using the console. Seemed to install with no issues.

I'm trying to use mkfs.ext2 to format my 64MB Sandisk SD card so I can install a few programs there with the appropriate symlinks. I get the following from mkfs.ext2 /mnt/card:

mnt/card is not a block special device.
Proceed anyway? (y, n) y
mkfs.ext2: Device size reported to be zero. Invalid partition specified, or partition table wasn't reread after running fdisk, due to a modified partition being busy and in use. You may need to reboot to re-read your partition table.

Guess I'm doing something wrong.

***EDIT*** Should note I did reboot after getting this message the first time; rebooting didn't help.

Hi folks. 24-hour-old Opie/OZ3.5.3 install on a 5600. Using Linksys WCF12. No WEP on the network; I use MAC filtering and have already entered the wNIC's MAC address in the table. Can't ping the router, and downhill from there. Have looked all over the OESF fora and unless I've missed something I don't see a start-to-finish wifi setup post, although in all my reading I've learned not to use the Opie Network GUI. I fiddle with FC3's wireless settings all the time but I'm stumped here.

What config files should I edit, and what values should I plug? I'd like to go ahead and specify the ESSID (SRSHOME) since I've got a ton of strong, unsecured wlans around here and I don't want to just connect to the strongest signal I pick up...

Thanks for reading.

Went back to the default configuration (renamed backup file I'd made) and it works fine in my local open-access Internet Cafe, which has no security or filtering of any kind going on (although Konqueror crashes, but I'll deal with that later). When I bring it back to my WLAN, however, still fails to work.

OK, I'm on to chapter 2 of this morning's story. Found a self-extracting file on the Sharp site at

Note the link to the Install CD file. D/led it, put it on CD, and when I placed the CD in the drive autorun kicked in, showing me the menu of install options.

Problem, though -- the USB Driver install process simply won't work on my new XP Pro SP2 box (hardly use the Windows partition on this machine at all, though it is fully patched). I can see the two .inf driver files in the top-level of the CD, but the New Hardware Wizard doesn't pick them up as the appropriate drivers for the device.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Just purchased a refurbed SL-5600. Arrived with no CD, so no sync s/w and (more to the point) no USB driver for the SL-5600 for Windows XP. I downloaded and installed Qtopia Desktop, but of course without the USB driver I just get sync fails. Anyone know where I can get an image of the CD that was supposed to ship with the device, or the USB driver for an SL-5600?

I dual-boot my laptop with fc3 for x86_64 but want to try the Winblows approach first until I get more comfortable. I'm sure I'll be looking for help with Linux sync later...
