Ubuntu / Zubuntu Is The Best. Thank You!

I started using Zaurus from SL5500 and then in 2004 got the C3000. I am a unix geek by heart. All I wanted to just run a full blown linux version on ARM to do everything a normal linux laptop does.... and believe me, I have tried every z distro (sharp, openzaurus, angstrom, debian, the kompany, pdaxrom, ... etc openbsd...) everything... they all didn't have the power and "ooomph" to do everything you would do normally on a desktop/laptop linux box on the zaurus... up until now...

I got zubuntu working, and it is amazing... it does everything i need it to do and more! i even have it on permanently as a box on my network... love it.... everthing just works! It feels as though I have the power of a linux server in the palm of my hand!

A BIG thank you to cortez at omegamoon for his efforts and everyone who has contributed to make this happen!

Debian / Wpa_supplicant With Hostap

Hi Everyone,

I have debian running with the following config.
C3000 - Debian EABI - Kernel 2.6.23 of Angstrom

Did a dist-upgrade and and the new wpa_supplicant doesn't have hostap built in, does anyone have a currently version of wpa_supplicant with hostap support compiled for armel (EABI) they can post up?

Hardware Mods / Tried To Make 40gb Z With Ipod Hdd

Hi All,

I tried yesterday to fit in a 40GB hard disk out of a 4G ipod into the C3000 Z.

The plan was to replace the internal CF disk with the ipod hdd - with about 2cm sticking out. To do this I had to make a new gap from the silver plastic above the CF entry point and extend the CF entry point on the white plastic.

After about 2 hours of opening, unscrewing, ripping bits of plastic, the new hdd fit in (with the bit sticking out on the side, hey I didn't care, was going to have a 40GB Z !).. it just wouldn't power on.... the ipod (toshiba) disk is 3.3v - same as the microdrive... to power it back up you need to run it off the battery for some reason, then plug in the adapter... otherwise if you try to power with the adapter, it light would keep blinking and nothing happens...

so i closed everything up again and put the original 4gb in there and it is back to normal except for the large gaps...

If anyone has some pointers im willing to try it?

maybe a 5G ipod disk which is a little thinner might work?

Wondering if anyone has a working version of mysql for a c3000 sharp rom with tetsu kernel?

I've got apache and php from creshno working no probs, just can not find a working sql version, all the versions ive tried (v3 or v4) dont work properly at all.. there's tonnes of posts around regarding this issue, been through all of them but still can't find a working version.

Software / Changing Default Font In Hancom Word?

Just wondering if its possible to change the default font for hancom word on a c3000 ?

the default font is a bit too big and changing the font from the menu to a smaller size is only cosmetic, it reverts back to the old big one when you open the file again.

Security and Networking / So... Wpa1/2 For Tetsu Rom C3000 ?

I have 2 CF cards, a semi-working D-Link DCF-660 and and ambicom WL1000C, both are Prism 2 and are versions 1.7.4 and 1.8.0 luckily....

I have a C3000 with Testu's atty kernel v17i.

Would the hostap_supplicant work for my config? do i need to recompile the modules and then point the pcmcia config to load them?

what type of wpa works ? I have wpa2 personal running on an apple airport extreme ap..

ive seen numerous posts on how to update the firmware to 1.7.0+ and how to do this on OZ or cacko.. but not sharp/tetsu kernels...

5x00 Hardware / Not Booting, Diag Mode Works, Can Flash...

my faithful sl5500 has stopped working properly... noticed a weirdness where it wouldnt turn off and the battery thought it was always charging... although it wasnt!!

anyway, it eventually ran out of power... and hasnt been the same since...

now the charge light it always on when the power is connected... can be like this for days... sometimes when i press reset, the charge light flashes...

ive been able to get into the diagnostics menu.... d+p + reset... and was able to update the flash many times (tkc, oz, cacko) and it still wont boot up...

what is there left to try?

after many many months of trying to find a usb mini A to female cable.......FINALLY found someone who sells it! The distributor of iriver in aus sells them and they just got a deliver of them in! They dont sell to public usually, but in this occassion they are ok to do so.

been trying for the last 2 days to find the best encoding and resolution for the zaurus to play divx's nicely...
(this has been done on a c3000)

firstly you need to use tetsu 18a kernel with bvdd iwxmmt and mplayer 1.1.5 from atty.jp

I've tried to sqeeze movies down the smallest possible size whilest having an acceptible quality. in my trials ive tried the following on the same divx.

along the way found a weird thing, the :autoaspect breaks bvdd and doesnt play any avi anymore... reboot is needed to fix the problem...

to play the movie you need to add "-vm -vo bvdd -fs output.avi" either manually in terminal or in kino2 or zplayer options.

anyway after painstakingly encoding all the options above... found the best one, which makes the movie full screen, sound in sync, good clear resolution and an acceptable size = 200MB down from 704MB... and the winner is...

<updated the post - found a better encoding to make the files even smaller - doesnt use lame for audio>

wondering if anyone has been able to compile ax8817x.o for the z3000?

it seems my new usb ethernet card works only with the above module...

ive set up a development environment on a linux box.... got the c3000 kernel source (2.4.20)

problem is, this module was only added from 2.4.22 onwards....

so how would one go about getting this working on the z? can it handle non 2.4.20 modules and how do you compile 2.4.22 (straight from kernel.org) for arm?

there are many usb ethernet cards that use this chipset, would help a lot of people if we get this going

wondering if anyone has successfully been able to play scummvm games fullscreen 640x480??

i managed to get 0.6.1 to load but screen is only around 100x100 vertical on clamshell z3000...
