Ubuntu / Android/cupcake On Zubuntu Rc 1.0
« on: March 04, 2009, 07:04:04 am »
Has anyone managed to get Android (either 1.0 or cupcake) working with Zubuntu RC 1.0?

I know cortez has/had plans to release an Android package, but is no doubt too busy at the moment with getting Zubuntu released.

There are no Android devices available here in Japan, so I am hoping to be able to use my Zaurus for testing (even if it turns out to be a bit slow). I've been able to compile the cupcake sources, but I don't know what needs to be done to target the Zaurus, nor where to copy the compiled files or how to start Android once it's been copied over.

If anyone has any information on how to do this (or better yet, a pre-made image/archive), I'd greatly appreciate it.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Mpd - Aac/faad2 Support
« on: January 21, 2007, 12:12:45 am »
According to this post:
http://lists.linuxtogo.org/pipermail/opene...ber/001868.html

... faad2 support has been added to mpd.

Would anyone happen to have a package of this built, or be willing to build one? I currently don't have a compilation environment setup, and would rather not go through the trouble of setting it up for just one package (which might not even build or may fail to provide the features I'm looking for).

Specifically, I hope to gain support for aac+ streams from soma.fm.

Note: using OZ 3.5.4.1/Spitz on C3200.

Software / Updating Qpegps - New Gpsd And More
« on: January 17, 2007, 08:26:04 pm »
Actually, I added support for the latest gpsd over a year ago, along with a lot of other features (non-overlapping tiled maps, etc.). As it was a major rewrite, I had planned to start a new branch in the repository; lazy as I am, though, I never got around to it.

Unfortunately I no longer use my Zaurus, but I think I still have the updated code. I'm still listed as an admin for the project; I'll try to get myself to post the code somewhere in the repository (or just submit it to one of the current active developers).

General Discussion / W-zero3: Zaurus Killer?
« on: July 04, 2006, 09:37:11 pm »
Just to note: a new model has been released, a slimmed down version that swaps screen-size for a phone keypad:

Also worth noting is that at the announcement, the Sharp representative apparently mentioned that Sharp intends to continue the Zaurus line as well.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Japanese Input Support In Oz?

How about you join us at http://gakusei.sf.net?  It seems a few people have picked up working on Japanese on OZ lately.  There is already doubled effort.  Let's coordinate.

Unfortunately, I no longer use OZ. In fact, lately I barely even touch my Z, except to use the dictionary application.

Sorry.

I plugged a USB mouse into my sl-c1000 and got a working cursor with nothing installed softwarewise.
Was that with the stock Sharp ROM, or the Cacko ROM (as listed in your signature)?

It's possible that Cacko has all the necessary drivers/software pre-included (mouse driver, InputHelper, etc.).

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Japanese Input Support In Oz?

"I" am working on getting Japanese things (anthy, nunome) working with OZ at http://gakusei.sf.net.  I have been doing so for a long time, though, and as a non-programmer have not made much progress myself so far.  So, do not expect anything too rapidly.  Any input from programmers and non-programmers alike is welcome.  Gakusei should be a community for people using their computer/PDA as a learning aid for the Japanese language.[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=124350\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
rolf, I got your private message, but thought that I would reply here for everyones benefit.

I just wanted to mention that so far IMKit is working, but buggy. Nunome works as well, though it has hard-coded settings for 320x240, and thus needs some work for the VGA models.

I'm currently in the middle of a move, so I don't have time to work on it now, but hopefully I can put some time in on the two during the Golden Week vacation (first week of May in Japan); I make no promises though.

ipkg 0.99 is absolutely TERRIBLE as well. I wonder how come it COULD be so slow ? [div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=123329\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I have noticed a problem with ipkg as well; when I try to install a local file, ipkg first pauses for a long time before finally outputting anything. It appears as if it is searching for something... is it, perhaps, first (unnecessarily) parsing the list of available packages? Is there something that needs to be done to speed up the process?

Admittedly, I have not done much searching on this topic; maxg's post just brought it to mind.

Excellent. Can you release that "bit of coding" somewhere?

I submitted the necessary info to the OE bugtracker (bugs #842, #843).

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Chinese Input In Openzaurus/ Opie
« on: April 16, 2006, 07:21:32 pm »
I know little about Chinese input methods, but...

I have recently been working on getting Japanese input methods working with Opie, including IMKit, which supposedly also supports Chinese (pinyin traditional/simplified). At the moment it runs, though it still has bugs. I hope to work on it when I get more time (I'm currently getting ready to move).

As for ckeyboard, it appears rather old, so it was probably built for Opie back when OZ used an older version of the GNU gcc compiler (2.95); the current OZ/Opie is built with 3.4.4, which is incompatible. You might be able to get ckeyboard by recompiling it, but there's also a chance that the Opie API has changed since then.

I was able to get QPOBox working with Opie.

I posted details and ipks (for spitz) on the following public wiki (warning: Japanese):

To make Qt/Embedded fit with our new KDE 3.5 Konqueror, we need to touch the qte configuration anyway. We will consider enabling the codecs.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=122334\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Just as a note, I was able to enable the codecs myself by removing the QT_NO_CODECS flag from packages/qte/qte-2.3.10/qpe.patch and recompiling. With this fixed library in-hand and a bit of coding, I was able to get QPobox (Japanese input method) working with Opie.

Thus, it would certainly be a great help if the codecs could be enabled by default.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / 3.5.4.x Upgrades

Can the qte package be modified to include codecs (i.e. remove the QT_NO_CODECS flag), or perhaps could an alternative package (qte-with-codecs) be created?

I am currently trying to port a Japanese input method (qpobox), something that is currently missing from Opie and, I believe, has prevented a lot of Japanese users from switching over to OZ. However, it, as well as a lot of other Japanese Qtopia-based software, depends on QTextCodec (in this case, QTextCodec("EUC-JP")).

In the meantime, is there any simple way that I can build it myself? The QT_NO_CODECS flag doesn't seem to be coming from the .bb file.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Fsck.vfat Doesn't Correct Errors.

I unmounted the /dev/hda3 partition. Then when I run "fsck.vfat /dev/hda3" on it it will ask me if I want to correct an error.  I choose "1" (correct) but it says
"Leaving filesystem unchanged."
and closes.

Does anyone know why it doesn't correct the error?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=119270\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
From the man page: "If -a and -r are absent, the file system is only checked, but not repaired". In other words, try running "fsck.vfat -r /dev/hda3".

Linux Issues / Zaurus 3200 -> English?
« on: March 18, 2006, 11:47:58 pm »
All of the SL-Cxxx/x Zaurus models have Japanese interfaces by default. The method for switching the menus and such on the SL-C3200 to English should be the same as any of the others; just do a search on these forums for more info. Basically it involves modifying a bunch of text-based settings files; there's even a script that will do it for you.
