OESF Portables Forum _ Zaurus - pdaXrom _ New Packages Announcement

Posted by: desertrat Mar 22 2006, 07:58 PM

This thread is reserved solely for announcements of newly available or updated contributed packages[*] so that people can just check one thread to see what goodies are available.

One package (or set of closely related packages) per post.

If you want to discuss/report bugs etc on the packages then

The current list of contributed packages is here:

For a vaguely categorised list go here:

If you would like to contribute a package (or documentation) but don't have (or don't want to use) your own webspace then see this post:

[*] contributed packages are those that have been made by regular pdaXrom users and are not yet in the official feed

ps: Laze, could you please pin this thread smile.gif

GNUDoku 0.93

GNUDoku is a free program for creating and solving Su Doku puzzles. You can use GNUDoku to challenge yourself, to compute solutions, or to verify your own solutions.

all of which can be downloaded from:

The reason for compiling this is that the version of Sudoku does not display well in landscape mode (it uses a non-resizeable portrait window), whereas GNUDoku has a resizeable window with the contents autoscaling.

Gaim 2.0.0beta2

Gaim is a multi-protocol instant messaging (IM) client for Linux, BSD, MacOS X, and Windows. It is compatible with AIM and ICQ (Oscar protocol), MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, SILC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, Lotus Sametime, and Zephyr networks.

This was compiled without libao support, which apparently is still buggy.

To enable sound follow these steps:

1) [Tools] > [Preferences] > [Sounds]
2) Under "Sound Method" select "Command"
3) In "Sound command" enter: esdplay %s

The default sounds seems to be a bit on the quiet side, you may want to find some alternatives.

I have only tested this with ICQ, so YMMV smile.gif

[Update 2006-03-29]
I have now stripped the binaries and libraries and repackaged. The resulting ipk is less than half it's previous size!

gthumb 2.6.9

Description :
A (fast) image viewer with lots of features.

Download :
It has been added to the contrib part of the pdaXrom-site (thanks pgas):

Notes :
There is a page online with screenshots of my Zaurus created with gthumb in just a few clicks

A few things have already been said about this and comments/success are welcome

The recent version includes gphoto-support, which means you can select images from your digital camera using gthumb. There's more info on it in the thread mentioned above and in You can also find the needed "libgphoto" over there, if you want this function. I didn't include it in the dependencies, cause I suppose some want to use the program without the use of a digital camera.

Have fun,

ported for pdaxrom.

(screenshot from their website)

game has some issues but it runs.

First of all, when you start, it complains about running as root user. I tried to create a user and to run the game as that user but i had some erros, no time to debug it.

Game speed is slow on my C3000 but overclocking to 624 Mhz makes it playable.

PostgreSQL 8.1.3

PostgreSQL is a powerful, open source relational database system. It has more than 15 years of active development and a proven architecture that has earned it a strong reputation for reliability, data integrity, and correctness.

download, this package provides the psql command line client. If you wish to use SSL connections you will need to install openssl., this package provides tools for commonly performed tasks. These are clusterdb, createdb, createlang, createuser, dropdb, droplang, dropuser, pg_dump, pg_dumpall, pg_restore, reindexdb, vacuumdb. If you wish to use SSL connections you will need to install openssl., this package contains the server. See notes below for quick start instructions. If you wish to use SSL connections you will need to install openssl., this contains the header and static library files.

All the postgresql components are installed in
/usr/local/postgresql. For convenience you may want to edit /etc/profile and add /usr/local/postgresql/bin to the PATH.

Quick start instructions

1) create a new user to handle the database, in this example
the user will be 'postgres' and its home directory will be
'/mnt/hd/store/postgres'. Make sure there is enough free space in
that partition to store your data.

adduser -D -h /mnt/hd/store/postgres postgres

2) login as the newly created user
su - postgres

3) create a directory for your database
mkdir data

4) tell postgresql to create your database cluster
initdb -D ~/data/

5) to start postgresql server
pg_ctl -D /mnt/hd/store/postgres/data -l /dev/null start

6) to stop postgresql server
pg_ctl -D /mnt/hd/store/postgres/data stop

7) read manual for full details

8) For extra convenience you may want to create these aliases for starting/stopping the postgresql server:

alias pgstart='su - postgres -c '\''pg_ctl -D /mnt/hd/store/postgres/data -l /dev/null start'\'''
alias pgstop='su - postgres -c '\''pg_ctl -D /mnt/hd/store/postgres/data stop'\'''

That gives the choice to:
- export them from

-- powertab
-- tabedit

or to load it from the internet

There's also the real time viewer included. But this viewer will get more functionality in the future since the ascii tab can be analyzed semi automatically to do less work per hand.

I've also replaced the menu interface with an icon interface (see also the new and enhanced version of fltk-ubahnav above).

As enhancement (since I use it in train when going to work) you can read in a text and get translation support via the loaded dictionary by tipping on the unknown word. You will get the best fitting match.

If time sad.gif I would like to add a learning mode for vocabulary training wink.gif

Cups 1.2.0

CUPS provides a portable printing layer for UNIX-based operating systems. It is developed and maintained by Easy Software Products to promote a standard printing solution and is the standard printing system in MacOS X and most Linux distributions.

After installing you need to "create" /etc/cups/cupsd.conf:

cp -a /etc/cups/cupsd.conf.default /etc/cups/cupsd.conf

Edit it if necessary.

Start the cups daemon:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/cups start

If you already have a cups server running on your network then you can list the useable printers:
# lpstat -p
printer Epson700 is idle.  enabled since Fri 12 May 2006 12:16:15 PM UTC
printer HP1100A is idle.  enabled since Fri 12 May 2006 12:16:16 PM UTC

Then set a default printer:
# lpoptions -d HP1100A
printer-info='HP LaserJet 1100A' printer-is-accepting-jobs=1 printer-is-shared=1 printer-make-and-model='HP LaserJet 1100A Foomatic/ljet4 on wurzel' printer-state=3 printer-state-change-time=1147436176 printer-state-reasons=none printer-type=12294

Check that it works:
lpr /etc/passwd

Ghostscript 8.50-GPL

Ghostscript is the name of a set of software that provides:
- An interpreter for the PostScript ™ language, with the ability to convert PostScript language files to many raster formats, view them on displays, and print them on printers that don't have PostScript language capability built in;
- An interpreter for Portable Document Format (PDF) files, with the same abilities;
- The ability to convert PostScript language files to PDF (with some limitations) and vice versa; and
- A set of C procedures (the Ghostscript library) that implement the graphics capabilities that appear as primitive operations in the PostScript language.

The main reason I compiled this is to be able to create PDF files. Abiword and Gnumeric in Beta3 are now able to print to postscript files (printing to PDF results in an complete mess). Using Ghostscript's ps2pdf program it is possible to convert the postscript output into a PDF file.

The standard core 35 postscript fonts are not included in this package. They are not needed if you're only doing PS -> PDF conversion.

kchmviewer is a CHM (Winhelp) files viewer written on Qt/KDE. It can be build as a standalone Qt-based application, or a KDE application. The main point of kchmviewer is compatibility with non-English chm files, including most international charsets.

To keep it lightweight this has been compiled without KDE support.

thanks for compilation of vim7. I've tried out the omni-complete for ruby but it's not working since ruby support is not compiled in. Could you try to make a version with +ruby and +python?

I've also tried it myself in the past but had no luck.

Xournal is an application for notetaking, sketching, keeping a journal using a stylus. It is free software (GNU GPL) and runs on Linux (recent distributions) and other GTK+/Gnome platforms. It is similar to Microsoft Windows Journal or to other alternatives such as Jarnal and Gournal.

PDF annotation
Xournal can be used to annotate PDF files, by loading the pages of a PDF file as backgrounds for a journal. This feature requires the pdftoppm converter to be installed (this is part of the xpdf PDF file viewer).
bitmap backgrounds
ghostscript (optional: used to import PS/PDF files as bitmap backgrounds)

To 2or0: This seems to be a great alternative to FreeNoteQt! Is there a way to specify the window size at start (under matchbox)? Using -geometry returns an error.

To Meanie: Nice to see a new build of tuxcards. May I ask what is meant by "optimised for xscale"?

zbedic 1.1-1

I compiled the desktop version of zbedic 1.1-1 for pdaXrom. It requires sqlite_3.2.1_armv5tel.ipk and readline_4.3_armv5tel.ipk which are in a official feed.

zbedic now can be run on desktop! Binary packages for Debian and other Linux distributions are available starting from this release. This release has also several improvements for the Zaurus version: images can be included in dictionaries, redesigned 'add dictionary' interface and new file dialogs.

Gngeo 0.6.12 - Optimized for ARM-Linux

An amazing Neo-Geo emulator! There's another ipk kicking around, but it doesn't display properly in the newer versions of pdaXrom.

You'll need to download a Neo-Geo BIOS for this to work. Easy enough to find with Google. Unzip it and copy over the files Gngeo complains about.

Runs great for smaller roms. Anything bigger than a few megabytes will need to use swap, though.

I have compiled Pioneers 0.9.64. It is a version of the game Settlers of Catan for computers. I tried it, and it seems to work OK. Setting up games is a bit odd, and the scrren is too big for the Zaurus, but other than that it is fine.

Edit: You have to edit the .desktop files to get the nice icons to show up and to put the programs under "Games". Edit the line "Icon=..." to include the full path. Then, add "Game;" at the end of the "Categories=..." line. Once you have done this for all three files, restart X.

Sylpheed 2.2.7:
Lightweight, fast and very feature-rich graphical email client.
Remove the old sylpheed package first. This version adds a lot of bugfixes and new features over the pre-installed one.

Great application for browsing Shoutcast and other streams and starting playback (mplayer) or ripping (streamripper, see below)

Plugin for Streamtuner for recording and splitting a stream. The stream ends up in one MP3 file per title with correct artist / title file names (provided the straming server sends correct metadata).

For FTP-based automated website synchronization (local host/remote server)

Compiled as a requirement for sylpheed-claws. A package for sylpheed-claws will come later maybe.

More packages will come.

I installed the efltk-chess on beta1/SL-6000. Although it looks really great, it does
not allow me to move the pieces. I installed xboard to make sure gnuchess was
working OK. Also, the gpe-tabviewer there (both versions) fail to install, with an
error message:tar: ./control.tar.gz: Not found in archive
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

zcat: stdin: unexpected end of file
mv: unable to rename `//home/tmp/ipkg/gpe-tabviewer/control/*': No such file or directory

And, just a real tiny issue I forgot mention, that the about window text is clipped on the
bottom, but I figured I'd mention it...

Please check where gnuchess is installed and add a link to /usr/bin (which is currently hardcoded :-( , I know ...)

I do not maintain gpe-tabviewer any longer since I switched completely to fltk-tabviewer.
Since there was no ipkg in my feed I added the last one. Since I can't control it at the moment please give me a hint if it's broken and I will repair it end of the week.

If you are still interested in gpe-tabviewer you can use the raw data file inside (without packet installer) per hand

# put the data.tar.gz on the zaurus for example in /tmp
cd /tmp
tar -xvzf data.tar.gz

look what's inside and install it per hand (only for the experienced user ...)

GnGeo 0.7

Peponas made a new version of everyone's favorite Neo Geo emulator biggrin.gif

This time, the binary is stripped, so it should take a little bit less RAM.

Still meaning to set up a repository. I'm also going to see about making an ipk for the Universal BIOS. Also need to get Epiphany working tongue.gif

UPDATE: The Universal BIOS ipk is a no-go, as their license explicity prohibits redistibution. However, you can get it here:
Just unzip to /usr/local/share/gngeo and run gngeo with --system unibios. Makes playing games a lot easier.

DOUBLE UPDATE: Seems the Universal BIOS actually doesn't work on the Zaurus. Which is very odd, because it works just fine on my PPC desktop, so it can't be a processor issue. PM me if you can get it working; if you can't, well, you can get the necessary BIOS files from any complete MAME set (, unzip to /usr/local/share/gngeo again).

Port of fltk-bedic to efltk lbrary is now ready.

For further informations please look at the efltk thread: *

I'm having great difficulty getting either of your efltk ipks to work-

chess installs but when I run it complains about "" missing, I see no other package that might provide this.

bedic won't allow me to install the ipk- I get an error relating to "....efltk-bedic/control/control': Not a directory" and I can't unpack the ipk...

Also I have tried adding your page to my feeds and when I try to install that way I just get file not found errors - I think you need to update the package file or something.

Please follow the link to the efltk thread given above. There you find the newest efltk packages. Afterwards try to install my packages oncemore.

I will check the efltk-bedic package by the end of the week but I think it only complains about it but installation is ok.

If there are further problems with the ipks then please report it to me by a PM. In the meanwhile you can overcome it with:

tar -xvzf <any-of-my- ipkg>.ipk
then sftp the data.tar.gz file to the zaurus
going to / (or better to /tmp for first seeing what's going on)
tar -xvzf data.tar.gz

For efltk-chess please make a link /usr/bin/gnuchess to the correct location of gnuchess.

Thanks ZDevil for packaging!

Notecase 1.2.3 has some more Zaurus-specific goodies:
Zaurus-friendly key shortcuts for example, which enable the used to rapidly create outlines without using the stylus at all. Saves a lot of time.
Together with the author, I am working on a version which can be used conveniently on the Zaurus.
There are still some usability issues, which will hopefully be solved in the near future.

I've compiled Battle for Mandicor (an RTS made on the Stratagus engine), and stripped out the sound to make a "lite" version. It's too big to post here, so can somebody host it?

If there's demand I can package up a full version.

Lite ~15 megs installed
Full ~30 megs installed

Edit: Here's a screenshot.

Hello Capn_Fish,

tried FreeCnC and it crashes with a SDL Parachute blink.gif
do you have any hints?

thanks Denis

Posted by: Capn_Fish Nov 2 2006, 04:44 AM

I compiled it with my own compiled SDL 1.2.11. It's a development package, but I can attach it this afternoon when I get the chance. I don't know if it will help, but it's worth a shot. If it does, I'll strio down my SDL package into a "normal" version.

BfM is a stand-alone app. You can just run "bfm" after installing it, no need to have Stratagus installed as it's compiled into it.

Here's the SDL-devel package. You need to remove your old SDL package, then install this one. If stuff doesn't find the files, you can try copying or linking them from /usr/local/... to /usr/...

 sdl_devel_1.2.11_armv5tel.ipk ( 2.7MB ) : 191

Posted by: zi99y Nov 2 2006, 12:46 PM

It seems that the bfm-lite package removed execute permissions across various folder in /usr so that I couldn't even start the gui until I'd been through and tracked down the changed folders.

Anyway, after this, I got into the game but when clicking on start game in the main menu it crashes out with

Can't open file `sounds/music/battleformandicor.ogg'
Can't open file `sounds/music/battleformandicor.ogg'
Can't open file `sounds/music/valmistakauraa.ogg'
Can't open file `sounds/music/valmistakauraa.ogg'
Can't open file: No such file or directory
Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)

Also I notice that the minimum res is 800x600, has this been tested already?

Posted by: Capn_Fish Nov 2 2006, 01:00 PM

I have tested it. I think that I forgot to mention that in /home NOT /home/xxx there is a directory called .stratagus. You need to move that to your home directory. That should help, as I believe that is where I disabled music.

Posted by: zi99y Nov 3 2006, 12:33 AM

I found the .stratagus folder in /home/user which also needed permissions changing for me to access, and have moved it to my home, but alas I still get the same error as before...

Has anyone else tried it and experienced the same? I'm curious whether its just my system that is being problematic...

Posted by: Capn_Fish Nov 3 2006, 04:47 AM

It's probably looking in /home/root, as that's where it was for me (I haven't found a good way to add a user). Try moving it there.

Here it is: Stratagus 2.2 alpha. It wouldn't install into a directory, so I'm posting just the executable. Let me know (in a new thread, please) if there are issues, and I'll try to find the source of the problem.

You can get the alpha of BoS's data at the Stratagus website.

Edit: The executable is all you need. You can put it wherever you want and run it, but you have to point it to the BoS data. It seems to hang if you don't have swap, however.

You can use git without ever needing those tools, so I didn't add the dependencies to the package. If you need or want them, install the required packages.

New Sylpheed 2.2.10 email client

epdfview 0.1.5 lightweight PDF viewer
and its dependency poppler 0.5.4
edited: This program works only with freetype >= 2.1.10.
If you have an earlier version installed, you can download and install Freetype 2.1.10 from
However, please be aware that freetype is needed by the GUI package manager. So it is strongly recommended to (un)install freetype using the command line!

xcardscheme 0.0.2 (edited: changed name from gcardscheme to xcardscheme, because gcardscheme existed already!)
which is the first version of a PCMCIA/CF card scheme switcher with GUI.
Depends on Xdialog, which is available in this feed:
If you defined more than one scheme in the "LAN & WIFI config" under "System tools", you can use gcardscheme to switch between them without using the console. It's a replacement for the "cardctl scheme" command.
Please test! Does anyone know how to make the font bigger?

MPD and friends -

Low-power music playing goodness! This version of MPD just has Tremor (Vorbis) and MAD (mp3) support, so it should run without any extra packages. Allows gapless playback and crossfading on the Zaurus.

You need to edit /etc/mpd.conf before it'll run.

If anybody wants support for more formats (FLAC, AAC, Musepack, and Mod are possible) just send me a message and I'll see about doing an updated version.

MPC is a scriptable, command-line client for MPD. Glurp is a GTK+2 based client, and is very nice to use - however, it constantly polls the daemon for information about the current song, so it takes up a notable number of CPU cycles to have it running. The music will keep playing if you close it, though (one of the main advantages of MPD).

You can also use Glurp/MPC to control MPD on a remote host - it's a simple setting in Glurp, and you just need to set the MPD_HOST variable for MPC.

well, I've been hacking away building pdaXii13 which is the C3000 version of pdaXrom beta3

while doing so, I created a few new useful packages which I am now sharing so other users, mainly C3100/3200/C1000 owners, can use them as well.

accessx contains the tool ax which you can use to configure the AccessX features in the X server if enabled in your .xinitrc

gplflash is an old flash player which I could not find compiled for pdaXrom so I compiled it. It contains a firefox plugin as well.

matchbox_panel_manager allows you to change the order of the applets in the matchbox panel

obconf is a very useful tool to configure openbox which I believe should have been included in pdaXrom by default. I didn't compile it, but included it anyways because it is such a great tool and not easy to find.

reboot will add an icon to the menu similar to the Exit option

rotate replaces the default and x11scr file and does pretty much the same thing, ie rotate the screen, but also rotates running applications as well.

screencap will allow you to easily take a screendump. it uses scrot if installed, otherwise falls back to using xwd. it also plays a sound file and mimics the behaviour of the screencap tool in Sharp ROM.

sdcard contains the updated SL-C3200 SD driver and is only for the new clamshell models using beta3. This package cleanly removes the mmc driver installed by beta3 and replaces it with the sharp module and also replaces associated tools such as sdmgr and mb-applets-cards so you get proper and stable workings SD card.

xdialog just gives you easy dialogs under X. all the other xdialog packages I found crash with gdk font errors so I made this one which works without crashing smile.gif

Znester 7.1.4 for pdaXrom with Joystick support

Ok, I used as basis znester 7.1 source code, patch to 7.1.3 and then another joystick patch, which I modified a bit smile.gif

To use the joystick, use --joystick parameter

The package itself:

You need this also:
(I think Meanie's package, but not 100% sure, just attaching it here)

Normally for running znester, you don't need the stuff below, only for recompiling it (optimizing, or in case my patch needs extending).

The patches (needed only for rebuilding): (original one) (mine)

original source code (apply patches to it)

BestCrypt 1.6.7 for pdaXrom beta3

I successfully compiled BestCrypt that can be used in pdaXrom, I use it since some time, works perfectly. I hope it does too for you smile.gif

don't forget to symlink startup/shutdown scripts to /etc/rc.d/init.d/bcrypt wink.gif
(or use it manually to load / unload bestcrypt kernel modules)

Bulgarian cyrillic phonetic input (applet)

I noticed there aren't much (any) bulgarian keymap layouts for the mb-applet-keymap out there.

So I got one russian and modified it smile.gif fixed some chars, and now it's bulgarian, even bulgarian flag is there.

Add applet to your taskbar and you're ready to go smile.gif

Sorry to muddy a sticky'ed announcement thread with yet another non announcement, but this should curb the posts.
Hopefully I'm not off base with this, but, there is a problem with attachments in the oesf forum right now. Hang tight and watch the site announcement threads.
Sorry to come across as a hard-ass but this thread is intended for pdaXrom software announcements and non-announcements tend to muddy up the stream. Hope you understand.

So I modified the sdl keysyms in in the source such that F1-F7 in the game menu (called "computer mode" as in the startup screen) are remapped to i, j, k, l, m, n, o. These keys are free in the original mapping and it seems the code specifies a contiguous range in the sdl keysyms . When no moves can be made, cards still out of sequence are reshuffled and dealt face up after the ends of the partial sequences, leaving a card space after each sequence, so that each row looks like a partial sequence followed by a space, followed by enough cards to make a row of 14. A moment's reflection will show that this game cannot take more than 13 deals. A good score is 1-3 deals, 4-7 is average, 8 or more is poor.

Posted by: rgrep Jan 5 2007, 05:01 AM

Great work ZDevil! Your latest batch of packages have inspired me to finally release a game I patched and packaged up a number of months ago but never got around to posting:

Anyone remember that old game from 1992,

It used to be my favourite game back in the day and I was thinking one day that it would be cool to get it to run under dosbox. Thankfully some nice chap has rewritten a portable SDL version of the engine that powers the game. So no need for emulators, the game runs at full speed on the Zaurus! is a Free implementation of Delphine Software's Flashback engine and is capable of running any game based on the Flashback engine.

This version has been patched to compile for pdaXrom and run fullscreen.

To play Flashback you'll need to get the original Flashback game data files as these are not Free Software.

IMPORTANT: This package DOES NOT contain the data files required to run the game. See /usr/share/doc/reminiscence/README.pdaXrom for more information.

The game is now labelled as "abandonware" and is available for download from a variety of web sites. Please note that it is NOT Free Software so you might be breaking the law if you acquire it in this manner.

See the attached screenshots which were taken on my Zaurus.

The package is also available from my

REminiscence also supports playing music in the game by using the MOD music files from the original Amiga version of the game. The MOD files can be downloaded from Unexotica (see link below). Simply place the MOD files (e.g. mod.flashback-ascenseur) in the same directory as the data files (i.e. /usr/lib/reminiscence/flashback).

The MOD files are provided in an LHA archive. Please let me know if you have trouble extracting these files and I will make them available in a more modern archive format.

Please note that there are some minor glitches in the cutscenes (objects compressing horizontally to a single pixel). This has been apparently fixed in the unreleased version 0.1.9 of REminiscence. I will be contacting the author to see if this patch can be released.

Make music, tracker style, on your VGA, pdaX-running Z!

Note that this is a pre-1.0, SVN compile and seems to stop responding if you enable playback tracing (CTRL+F) and then play a track- I've informed the author.

Anybody want to try compiling SpiralSynthModular or Zynaddsubfx? I can't get them to find FLTK, but I'm sure a configure switch would sort that out its just a case of whether the Z has enough CPU power to run 'em (probably not but only one way to find out....)

rox-backdrop is a simple script created by me which allows you to change the rox backdrop from the command line which is useful if you want to automate the change of the background image on rotation.

the syntax is very simple:

rox-bset --update full_path_to_image.png

by default it will look for /usr/share/pixmaps/Wallpapers/background.png if you do not provide an image as an argument.

rox-bset --portrait will look for /usr/share/pixmaps/Wallpapers/background-v.png
rox-bset --landscape will look for /usr/share/pixmaps/Wallpapers/background-h.png

and finally, if you have the package wallpaper installed

rox-bset --random will activate wallpaper for random background images.

GIMP1.2.5 is much faster on my SL6000 than any of the newer versions of GIMP I've tried. I use this mostly for handwritng.

Note that this version is built without support for perl or gimp-print, but other than that, it's the complete distribution.

gsumi1.1.0 is essential the ink tool for gimp, as well as the starting point for getting X-input support into the gimp. 1.1.0 is the latest version AFAIK. It's slightly faster and more respoinsive than gimp's ink tool, but not nearly as useful, missing color support and all of the other bells and whistles that come with gimp. Furthermore, it only saves in PBM formats, which makes it difficult to find an alternate viewer for saved drawings. Luckily, the default version of GQView can read them.

I'd somewhat planned on trying to merge gsumi with imagemagick, netpbm and gimp, to try to retain the speed of gsumi, while adding the functionality of the other more popular applications, but for now, that's way over my head.

Zim 0.17 - a desktop wiki and outliner:

I compiled and packaged single file with zim and all perl dependencies(Glib, Gtk2, File::MimeInfo, File::DesktopEntry, and optional modules such as Gtk2::TrayIcon, Gtk2::Spell). For spell checking, you need to install gtkspell, aspell and aspell-dic. If you need aspell dictionary for other languages, check here.( )

Description from Project page
Zim is a WYSIWYG text editor written in Gtk2-Perl which aims to bring the concept of a wiki to your desktop. Every page is saved as a text file with wiki markup. Pages can contain links to other pages, and are saved automatically. Creating a new page is as easy as linking to a non-existing page. Pages are ordered in a hierarchical structure that gives it the look and feel of an outliner. This tool is intended to keep track of TODO lists or to serve as a personal scratch book.

xdm for beta3

I've build a replacement xdm since the one in the xfree package does not work. This is a very simple version of xdm such that it only displays in black and white. Once you install it, pdaXrom will boot with a graphical login. After you login, you will get your default window manager as defined in /etc/X11/xsm or /home/root/.xsession
The simplest way to retain your current window manager which probably is configured with /home/root/.xinitrc is to symlink it to .xsession

To shutdown to the command line, press Ctrl+Alt+BS three times in a row.

While I was building exo-0.3.2 (part of xfce 4.4 build process) , I had to either quit building it or build new perl instead, as the one included in b3 didn't had perl.h inside. So I built latest full perl 5.8.8 and also URI CPAN module for it.

Here there are, if anyone interested.

According to the web site,

Some would call TreeLine an Outliner, others would call it a PIM. Basically, it just stores almost any kind of information. A tree structure makes it easy to keep things organized. And each node in the tree can contain several fields, forming a mini-database. The output format for each node can be defined, and the output can be shown on the screen, printed, or exported to html.

Treeline depends on SIP and PyQt, so install these files first.

Ted - a lightweight word processor for pdaX b3/ii13

To install Ted just extract the archive to /usr/local with the command

tar xvfz Ted_2.17_Linux_armv5tel.tar.gz -C /usr/local

Spell checker dictionaries for languages other than the US excuse for English wink.gif can be downloaded from

To install them just copy the .ind file from the appropriate archive to /usr/local/ind

If you have the main Ted document window open and in focus pushing the 3 key causes Ted to crash with this error dumped to the console

X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 42 (X_SetInputFocus)
Serial number of failed request: 2006
Current serial number in output stream: 2010

and If you have the main Ted editor window open and in focus pushing the 7 key opens up the spell checker window but doesn't produce any errors on the console.

I've informed the author and he says these bugs will be fixed for the next release but until that happens you can work around this by using the Insert/Symbol menu option whenever you want to enter the number 3 or 7 under Ted.

A band of *bands

The classic *band.

Angband 3.0.6 (rebuilt with new tileset and SDL sound support)
-- Angband is a freeware computer dungeon exploration game based (loosely) on the books of J.R.R.Tolkien. You explore a very deep dungeon, kill monsters, try to equip yourself with the best weapons and armor you can find, and finally face Morgoth - "The Dark Enemy".
-- The origin of the "V" variants, a.k.a. the "*bands".
-- Developers' pages: a.k.a. "r.g.r.a.".
-- Optimized build now with David Gervais' 32x32 tiles and Brendon Oliver's SDL sound patch ( ).

The main program:
 angband_3.0.6_armv5tel.ipk ( 1.59MB ) : 260

The sound package:
 angband_sound_3.0.6_armv5tel.ipk ( 5.8MB ) : 259
(Depends: sdl-mixer)
(Added: The uploading changed the dash to an underscore. Rename it to "angband-sound_3.0.6_armv5tel.ipk" and install will go well. smile.gif )

The new *band!

NPPAngband 0.5.0WIP8a
-- What would Angband look like if it was more aggressive about taking more ideas from the variants?
-- Homepage: (Fan site:

 nppangband_0.5.0wip8a_armv5tel.ipk ( 1.39MB ) : 241

Frazband 0.4.1a
-- Based on re-Tolkienised Zangband 2.6.2. It features a new magic system, a player settable difficulty option.
-- Homepage:
-- Note: The developer says on his website that the current source would support the 8x8 tileset. I've included Zangband's 16x16 tileset anyway, and it seems to load well.

 frazband_0.4.1a_armv5tel.ipk ( 1.25MB ) : 256

The quick *band~

Quickband 1.0.5
-- Quickband is a variant of Angband (via a popular variant called NPPband). As the name suggests, it's a truly "quicker" Angband.
-- The aim of Quickband is to descend to the 12th level of the dungeon and slay the evil wizard Saruman of Many Colors. Quickband is intended to be much quicker to complete than regular Angband (which has 100 dungeon levels). In fact you should be able to play a full game in just a few hours.
-- Homepage:

 quickband_1.0.5_armv5tel.ipk ( 1.59MB ) : 241

The easy *band?

Xangband 1.1.1 (Updated)
-- XAngband is one of the ZAngband variants, from japan, and is *pretty* easier than other variants. Many useful features from other variants and some original features are added in XAngband.
-- Homepage:

 xangband_1.1.1_armv5tel.ipk ( 1.77MB ) : 249

Hengband 1.6.2 (rebuilt)
-- Hengband is a variant of the Japanese translation of Zangband, adding new artifacts, monsters, classes, and magical realms, as well as a weapon proficiency system, dual-weapon fighting, riding, and a number of other features.
-- This is the last official release. Development has ceased. (But see below)
-- Homepage: (also see

Hengband 1.7.0
-- The very last unreleased development version (See the chats in: )
-- Homepage:

 hengband_1.6.2_armv5tel.ipk ( 2.23MB ) : 248

 hengband_1.7.0_armv5tel.ipk ( 2.29MB ) : 258

... Hey, wait! Where is Zangband then?
Yes, it's been around for quite a while:

The hard *band!

Entroband 1.7.1
-- New variant based upon Hengband 1.7.0
-- This variant is intended to be difficult, yet rewarding for characters of all levels. The developer hopes to get rid of some of the chaff and cruft from hengband, and still maintain a disordered and uncertain experience.
-- Homepage: ("Many monsters made more challenging. Many artifacts changed. Many weak monsters and artifacts removed. New, powerful, artifacts and uniques. New monster descriptions where many old ones were missing. Cheesy tactics slowly being plugged.")

 entroband_1.7.1_armv5tel.ipk ( 2.31MB ) : 249

The *band to hell...

Hellband 0.8.4
-- Hellband is a roguelike based on Angband. The theme is from Dante Alighieri's Inferno.
-- Homepage:

 hellband_0.8.4_armv5tel.ipk ( 1.18MB ) : 253

All the *bands here require ncurses.

All the ports are built with cpu optimization (-O2 -mcpu=xscale -mtune=xscale).

Of course, there are still lots of *bands around waiting to fight Zaurus - the great mind-opening, eye-catching, breath-taking beast ... tongue.gif

(link above) is the "mostly MATLAB-compatible high-level language" for numerical computation and modelling.

Couldn't find a version that worked well, (or even at all lately.) Older distributions for the arm4 processor can be found I compiled these binaries in the same manner, but with the newer compilers and optimizations.
i.e. CFLAGS="-O2 -mcpu=xscale" etc.

Tested in beta1.1.0 on an SL-6000.

(link above)

2.9.9 is the "development" distribution (more complete). Installs to approximately 37MB.
2.1.73 is the "testing" distribution (seems to be a little faster) Installs to approximately 80MB.
2.0.17 is the "stable" and obsolete version (not included here)

1.) For now, you may need to do go to the location of installation

cd  (CF, CARD, ETC) /usr/local/bin

and make the binaries executable, since they might not be executable by default.
chmod +x octave-2.1.73

chmod +x octave-2.9.9

2.) If you're only installing one version, you'll probably want to symlink the version name to just "octave" since it doesn't do so by default.

ln -s /usr/local/bin/octave-2.9.9 /usr/local/bin/octave

3.) I'll post the packages here when I get around to making it into an ipk.

Sorry if this is a repeated package, hope it's useful.

Here's three small packages, all have been optimised for the zaurus:

Elinks 0.10.6 a useful, text-mode only version of Links with tabbed browsing, but has support for nearly all protocols, and I've successfully used it to access both Gmail and Yahoo mail (use their 'alternate' login when the page asks you).

Note: I built it first with javascript support, but it would always give a relocation error when switching to any page sad.gif So this has been re-compiled without js support. I left the man packages in, as it is rather full-featured and you might like to read them first tongue.gif

It can do SMB, NNTP, Gopher, irc, telnet, mailto, HTTPS, CSS, tabbed browsing, supports archived attachments... just see the screenshot tongue.gif

With RXVT, also showing the 'alternate' colour scheme.

With a far more 'basic' console - VTE.

Next up, the latest Links 2.1pre26. Again I compiled it with just about every option (this time js is working wink.gif) It still can't access Gmail, though it does do Yahoo mail:

And lastly, Lamip 0.0.3 a command-line music player, that will play MP3/MP4/WAV/OGG/SPEEX/AC3 and has support for URI and playlists. It can be expanded to play other formats by compiling more plugins. Start it with 'lamip -n filename' or see lamip -h for help.

Note: I repackaged this - it's not my own compile, but it works wonderfully, so I thought I'd share biggrin.gif

I am completely new to making ipks, so bear with any errors biggrin.gif Also, I think I've managed to make working icon/.desktop files for Elinks/Links, but there are no menu entries - that you will have to do yourselves. (I don't use Matchbox/Openbox, so I've no idea about those entries ^__^)

Oh, and if there are any dependancy issues, please let me know O_o;;

Just a notice ... strip your libraries from debug symbols. They will take 2-3 times less space:

evolution-data-server - 7.2mb usage in /usr/lib vs 3.3 mb stripped. Repackaged version 6.4mb vs 2.3 with all things stripped and few unneeded stuff (for example *.la files) removed. Do you really have THAT much space and memory to not optimize them? smile.gif

-- Compiled with gcu, gtk (still can't fix the oversized window), X11, XAW and XPJ (kinda crappy iso) display modules. tcl/tk mode runs in trial builds, but with tons of errors. I suspect it's broken tcl/tk when compiling for pdaX (see another thread)

This time I've compiled a few things to make the zaurus prettier wink.gif

Tango Iconset - the Freedesktop standards compliant iconset, optomised for a gtk/xfce environment. Just uncompress and drop it into either '~/.icons' or '/usr/share/icons' and edit your .gtkrc-2.0 file with this line:

This weighs in at 8 meg, so feel free to delete some of the unneeded directories - 'emotes' and 'status' for example - to save some space.

 Tango.tar.gz ( 1.59MB ) : 299

Pcmanfm using Tango iconset and smooth engine.

KDE users can still use this set, but please download the 'icon-naming-utils' and run it over the directories within the Tango folder to enable the correct icons/symlinks for a KDE environment. Please use the command :

/usr/local/libexec/icon-name-mapping /usr/share/icons/nameoficonset/sizedir -ctypedir

ie; '/usr/local/libexec/icon-name-mapping /usr/share/icons/Tango/16x16 -capplications'

Note: Icon-naming-utils depends on xml-simple perl extension, perl5 and xml-parser (last two are available from the feeds).

 xml_simple_1.34_armv5tel.ipk ( 26.9K ) : 254
 icon_naming_utils_0.8.1_armv5tel.ipk ( 7.23K ) : 261

GTK-engine-smooth - another very fast and pretty engine, similar to Clearlooks, but around long before it tongue.gif

Depends on GTK 2.6 and some appropriate 'smooth' themes biggrin.gif

 gtk2_smooth_engine_0.6.0.1_armv5tel.ipk ( 79.6K ) : 277
 GTK2_Smooth_ColdBlue.tar.gz ( 1.46K ) : 265

PyPanel - if you are a fan of this panel bar, or already have python2.4 installed, then this is a good alternative to fbpanel/matchbox panel. Highly configurable and useful, it will work with matchbox applets and can launch apps directly from user-configured icons.

Depends on the additional library 'python-xlib'.

 pypanel_final_2.4_armv5tel.ipk ( 39.24K ) : 285
 python_xlib_0.13_armv5tel.ipk ( 101.95K ) : 301

PyPanel with custom app launchers and using Matchbox applets, Smooth GTK engine showing Smooth Cold-Blue theme.

If you plan on using any of these, please can you rename as follows, thanks to the forum upload renaming bug:

gtk2-smooth-engine_0.6.0.1_armv5tel.ipk, GTK2-Smooth-ColdBlue.tar.gz, icon-naming-utils_0.8.1_armv5tel, xml-simple_1.34_armv5tel.ipk, python-xlib_0.13_armv5tel.ipk, pypanel-final_2.4_armv5tel.ipk

EDIT: Now uploaded a more complete Tango Iconset, please redownload if you find you have icons missing or want a more unified look smile.gif

Posted by: Meanie Feb 14 2007, 04:18 AM

build LinNeighborhood which is a nice GUI samba client that is similar to Windows Neighborhood so you can easily mount windows shares with it.

also updated pcmanfm

and updated shared-mime-info also with the latest mime information database from freedesktop

and lastly, compiled fluxconf which also includes fluxkeys and fluxmenu to easily configure fluxbox

Posted by: Ling Feb 14 2007, 04:58 AM

Is there an app similar to LinNeighborhood that will let you browse NFS shares? Should pdaXii13 5.3 users install the updated shared mime types? Thanks.

Reminiscence 0.1.8 built with -mcpu=xscale -mtune=iwmmxt -O3 -fomit-frame-pointer -fno-common on beta3

Thanks to rgrep, I used most of his package, just recompiled reminiscence with the optimizations, which boosted the game speed a bit here.

smplayer 0.1.11

I compiled smplayer which is qt-based mplayer frontend. It was built with "-mcpu=xscale -mtune=iwmmxt" on rc121.

- Play any video (avi, mpeg, mkv...) you have in you harddrive or external device (CD, DVD...). You may choose audio and subtitle tracks. Maybe the most important feature: it will save the current settings for each video, so when you play it later it will continue at the same point and with the same options.
- It should be able to play dvd discs, including selection of titles and chapters.
- It also can play internet streams.
- It's possible to add black borders to 16:9 videos, so subtitles can be shown in that area.
- Several filters, for video and audio, are available.
- You can use the mouse wheel to move around the video.
- Includes a preferences dialog, where you can configure all settings of smplayer.

EDIT I upload newer version of smplayer. I remove all DEBUG messages as suggested by meanie.

2or0, where did you found 0.1.9 ... All I find is 0.1.5 and some date-named version. I want to recompile it for beta3, and to try to use atty's mplayer (not sure if it will work, but want to try it) because it has unknown command line options passed to 'mplayer' executable, and does not work sad.gif

* libmikmod - in the feed

Ok, this should be enough to get started. As I currently have a lot of stuff installed, if it does not work on your installation, contact me via PM so we can discuss, and eventually I will update the info here.

NOTE: I packaged the missing python modules , if you don't want to install the full python package, just grab this one:

Freeciv 2.1.0 beta 3, compiled on r121 with -O3 -mtune=iwmmxt -mcpu=xscale -fomit-frame-pointer -fno-common. If anybody using a Cxx0 has a problem, PM me, and I'll recompile it without the iwmmxt, which I believe should help.

As a note, I didn't get to test this, as it doesn't like to run as root, but it should be fine. Once again, PM me with problems.

Zoom 1.1.0 beta 3, compiled on 2.6.x, SL-C3100, with -O2 -mtune=xscale -mcpu=xscale

From the website:

Zoom is a Z-Machine, which means that it plays text adventure games written in ZCode. The original games were written by a company called 'Infocom' in the 80's: these are available on the Infocom Masterpieces CD, published by Activision. Unfortunately, Activision seems to have lost interest in this title - however, there are a few companies that have a stock of this CD (I bought mine from here). In around 1993, a compiler called 'Inform' was released that allowed ordinary mortals to create their own ZCode adventures. This sparked quite a revival, and there are many games available for download here. Inform itself has a homepage here

I have recompiled the latest xfe and fox for beta3. this build is optimised for xscale and does not use opengl. i also changed the default to not use the trash feature and no root user warning as well as starting maximised...

I also recompiled medit for beta3 and made sure it won't overwrite your mime settings when it gets installed.

I couldn't find any Sega master system emulators for pdaXrom, so I compiled SMS Plus/SDL. I changed the default key mappings for the buttons from c,v, and enter to Lshift, z, and space because c and v are too far in the middle of the keyboard and enter gets hit by accident too often because of the ok in the middle of the directional arrows on my C1000. I even made it so you can change the key mappings from the command line with --btn1 --btn2 --btnstart using the numeric codes from SDL_sym.h ( I'm not a programmer though, so maybe I broke something but it appears to be working fine. Let me know if not.

-- XArchon is a clone of the classic golden oddie ARCHON game which was distributed by Electronic Arts around 1985. It pits the light side against the dark side is a battle for the control of a chess-like playing board.

-- XArchon consists of a strategy mode, in which pieces are moved around the board, and an arcade mode, in which two pieces attempting to occupy the same square battle one another.

Strategy mode

Things to pay attention:
1) The yellow "power points": there are five of them, four in the middle of each side and one in the center; they all have healing function
2) Victory condition: Capture all five power points or kill all the enemies.
3) The color of each square: Lighter colors favors the Light side; darker colors the Dark side; see the indicator in the bottom right corner (-Lnumber vs. -Dnumber).
4) Each type in the armies has its own speed (how and how far you can move), attack, and special abilities (e.g. spells, teleport, morph).

Arcade Mode

(The Light Djinni is shooting its power bolt at the Dark Goblin)

Things to pay attention:
1) 2 ways to attack: melee and range (bolts also differ in terms of power, speed and sphere)
2) Speed matters!
3) Terrain tactics: The color of the rocks determines whether and how you can walk and shoot through them.

id3lib 3.8.3 & id3convertor

Some mp3 files' id3 tags are not in UTF-8 encoding (they are in GB2312, BIG5 or any other encoding...), so some player such as BMP cannot display them correctly.

So i built id3lib 3.8.3 and wrote a small script pack (depends on id3lib and libiconv) named id3convertor to convert MP3 files' id3 tags from any encoding to UTF-8 encoding.

install libiconv & id3lib first,
then install id3convertor

* convert a single file:
id3enc <filename> <from encoding>

* batch convert *.mp3 in a directory
cd <directory name>
id3all [from encoding]

note: the default value of from encoding for id3all is gbk.

DosBox 0.70

My version with customized mapper.txt that works almost normally ( the only exception is the ":" sign - you need to shift+fn+ ";" for this - because of the way dosbox handles it). Sorry - no zaurus specific patches or whatsoever.

from the changelog:

Another year and another dosbox version, again more speedups and compatibility fixes.

* Speed up the dynamic cpu core (certain games get much faster).
* Added a dynamic fpu on x86 hosts.
* Improved the cycle guessing code (and make it default).
* Better and more configurable joystick support.
* Improved the image and fat drives.
* Added nullmodem emulation.
* Various win 3.x enhancements (video/audio/ems/win32s).
* Improved CDROM detection and support.
* Speed up the screen drawing code.
* Added support for different keyboard layouts.
* Various fixes to the (C/E/V)GA emulation.
* Extended and improved all types of emulated memory. (umb/ems/xms)
* Dynamic core should work on Intel Macs.
* Various timer related fixes.
* Added a few more graphic scalers.

DAR 2.3.3

dar is a shell command that backs up directory trees and files. It has been tested under Linux, Windows, Solaris, FreeBSD, NetBSD, MacOS X and several other systems, it is released under the GNU General Public License (GPL). Since version 2.0.0 an Application Interface (API) is available, opening the way for external/independent Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) like kdar. This API relies on the libdar library, which is the core part of DAR programs; as such, the API is released under the GPL.

ImageMagick 6.3.2

Because I noticed I cannot find it ... and need it smile.gif

ImageMagick® is a software suite to create, edit, and compose bitmap images. It can read, convert and write images in a variety of formats (about 100) including DPX, GIF, JPEG, JPEG-2000, PDF, PhotoCD, PNG, Postscript, SVG, and TIFF. Use ImageMagick to translate, flip, mirror, rotate, scale, shear and transform images, adjust image colors, apply various special effects, or draw text, lines, polygons, ellipses and Bézier curves.

"Fast Incremental File Transfer"....

Search stuff. These versions work for me, whereas others didn't. Both straight compiles, few optimizations, no errors out of the box. (built while was down).

These also install to "/usr/local" and work in beta1 to rc179. Other versions installed to "/opt/native/arm".

Since we're all uploading our imagemagicks, here's mine. "display" works on 6000, (compiled on 6000). (Thought we all had these already.)

I've compiled ScummVM using zgcc under pdaXii13 is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files.
A couple games have become freeware:

Package: scummvm
Version: 0.9.1
Maintainer: antikx at tyrannozaurus dot com
Architecture: armv5tel
Priority: optional
Section: Applications
Depends: alsa-lib, libmpeg2, sdl, libmad, libvorbis

Features of this compile compared to other 0.9.1 compiles:
-uses Alez's script "" so that you can access the menu in some games that require a special key to be pressed.
-has MPEG2 support compiled in so that you can watch the cut scenes in games like "Broken Sword"

scummvm@tyrannozaurus home page: (HoloVector is maintaining it)

Often asked:

I am wondering if folks would not be better served by a standard post rather than a single thread. For example:

Subject: NPA: Debbie Does Zaurus

Package: ddz
Priority: optional
Section: Games
Maintainer: Debbie
Architecture: armv5tel
Version: 2.4.4-2
Depends: libbodyparts, libpositions, libunderwear, libcleaningsupplies
Package: ddz_2.4.4-2_armv5tel.ipk
Size: 4971788
MD5Sum: bf0efbf716cc6fc113912ecb2778971d
Description: Debbie Does Zaurus is a fun game in which a small town girl falls in love with a handheld device.

Then folks could discuss any issues with the package in that thread. You could search for them all with NPA: The NPA: posts could be placed in at least the appropriate folders for the ROMs they were built for. Just a thought. If we ever get any traffic at the new site, maybe that is the way we can do it there.

-O4 -mtune=xscale -mcpu=xscale -fomit-frame-pointer -fno-common

EDIT: Oh yeah, PM me or start a thread if there are issues...I didn't test it, as I cross-compiled.

EDIT2: I have been informed that I also need the latest classpath. I'll get to it ASAP.

EDIT3: The latest classpath needs a new gconf-2.0...This could be a long chain.

EDIT4: I'll probably never get around to compiling classpath, so if anybody wants to give it a shot, go ahead.

Off topic: AFAIK many packages will work just fine for all (or most) versions of pdaX and not every package is sensitive to the version differences. I suppose it's the packager's job to highlight the "version compatibility", but only if incompatibilities arise. Do correct me if i am wrong. smile.gif

Note: there is an anoying message about libpng something ... you can safely upgrade your libpng with this one: - works great, fully backward compatible.

Name: Golly 1.1

It uses wxWidgets and unfortunately the wxWidgets that came with standard pdaxrom beta3 does not work because of some missing components.
So i rebuild the wxWidgets with all the necessary components for the application.
I've attached all the necessary files..

For the golly application, i haven't package it yet because it need more work on the Makefile..
You just need to extract the tar.gz files in any directory.. and run ./golly

Hi everybody,

I've manage to compile OpenTTD 0.50.

The package does not have all the data files. You need the original TTD data files.
Please do not ask from me, you must own the game.

Music files are not included.

All the files are compiled from the source from openttd website.

Note: I'm not really sure what dependencies it requires but SDL packages is a must.
I haven't finish the packaging part yet.
You just need to extract the files where ever you like and run ./openttd
You need all the original TTD data files to run the application.
You can also use the configuration file, but its not included in the gz file.

The map background is black... not sure why..
Haven't fully tested the game yet..

yeah, maybe few others ... all in my feed - wink.gif

if any problems - PM me please. Also maybe the icons should be smaller ... and some small interface fixes so that it's ok for 640x480 ... but I'll figure out this later.

(built on beta3)

EDIT: Just resized the images on the left, so they are smaller now (approx 24x24) , and they fit better on the Z.

EDIT2: As original build broke my ROX b3 setup (icons and actions mostly), I repackaged it with some files from the original planner ... so please use the newer one

The full huge build is split into five packages: base, extra, lisp, leim, docs and lisp-source.

Emacs PIM Suite 1.3

This is a collection of byte-compiled "modes" (like softwares in an OS) specially for PIM.
The package contains: Planner (the gold of PIM in Emacs), BBDB (for contacts), Muse (wiki functionality), Remember (reminder)

(PS It seems the downloads in the forum are somehow corrupted. I can only download the files all named "index.html" and then I have to change them to the original filenames and they will work just fine.)

Bought USB NIC adapter with DM 9601E chip so I tried and finally compiled Davicom 9601 driver for kernel 2.4.20 (cacko, pdaxrom beta 1, beta3)

Install instruction:

unzip somewhere
cp dm9601.o /lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/driver/usb
depmod -a

then after you connect dm9601 USB NIC adapter you will get eth0 in ifconfig -a.
Just add IP address by

ifconfig IP_ADDRESS netmask NETMASK
route add default gw GATEWAY

Sopwith 1.7.1

This is a port of the classic computer game "Sopwith" to run on modern computers and operating systems. It is named "SDL Sopwith" as it was originally based only on the LibSDL graphics library.

Sopwith 1 did not have much of a physics model, but it allowed you to fly a 16x16 pixel plane along a scrolling map, shooting buildings and other planes. You could also drop bombs on your enemy, making Sopwith 1 resemble the classic arcade game "Scramble"

Sopwith included an option to play against the computer, a weak AI plane that couldn't follow your plane very well.

Game keys:

z: slow down (not too slow or you will stall!
x: speed up
space: fire machine gun
b: drop bomb
,: pull up
.: flip
/: pull down
h: home

s: sound

ctrl-c: quit game

if missiles are enabled:

z: flare
x: launch missile

Compile Environment:
crosscompile, gcc 3.4.6

BomberClone 0.11.7

This game, i hope it will soon be a good Clone of the game AtomicBomberMan or even something new, depends on what you all want to have. The Network will support from the beginning only TCP/IP (UDP Port 11000 for the Game and UDP Port 11100 for the Game MasterServer). So everyone can play it over the internet.

torsmo 0.18 for pdaXrom(pdaXii3) Special

Torsmo is a system monitor that sits in the corner of your desktop. It's very simple, customizable and it renders only text on the desktop (and percentagebars if you want it to wink.gif and the only lib it uses is Xlib.

Becaus Torsmo is designed for X86 and other desktop platform(not for ARM), so it can't get correct information such as CPU frequency on Zaurus.

I've modified it's source code and resolved following problems on pdaXrom 1.1.0 beta1 ~ beta3 (kernel 2.4.x , so pdaXii3 is included also).

* CPU frequency problem, now it can show correct frequency even you overclock/underclock the Zaurus.
* CPU usage problem on kernel 2.4.x, now it can show correct CPU usage on kernel 2.4.x ( deduct the "kapm-idle" process for correcting CPU usage )
* Correct battery information when AC power is plugged in.

Project Homepage:

Compile Environment:
pdaxrom 1.1.0 beta3 , gcc 3.4.6

You may change your settings in ~/.torsmorc file.
then you can use

# xwininfo

to get desktop window ID.

Remeber your desktp window id. for example, mine is 0xa0001c .

then use this command to startup torsmo:
# torsmo -w 0xa0001c

you must replace "0xa0001c" with your desktop window id.

Note: This version can be run on pdaXrom 1.1.0 beta 1 ~ beta 3 / pdaXii3 (kernel 2.4.x) only !

mtPaint 3.11

Compiled the newest version.

it may require

ipkg -force-depends install mtpaint_3.11_armv5tel.ipk

because the one in the feed requires libtiff and libungiff, while this one does not.

watch 0.2.0

I really missed this console command, so I compiled it.

all built under pdaxrom b3

Hugs built for (and on) pdaxii 13.

Hugs is an interpreter for the functional programming language Haskell. This is the September 2006 release, which is the most recent stable version. This is the Hugs98-Plus bundle, so there are various libraries included, most of which I have not tested.

Just the package:

edit: oops, server problems at the original feed URL. This one works

I can't believe I compiled Nano right before a new release, but here's the new one. Compiled for betas with a 2.6.x kernel.

I couldn't find a good Crossword program for pdaXrom, so I looked around and found this one. It works well and is sized well for 640x480. Runs a little slow but not painfully so.

Requires: python-core, pygtk, python-crypto

xword links:

This is my first ipk so go easy one me eh!

EDIT: Here is a download link until the forums are fixed:
And the proper name is: xword-1.0_py_1.0_armv5tel.ipk

First off, thanks canguy, and others, please don't flame too much...If I HAVE to post something here, I'll go compile something. smile.gif

Could you post what the ipk name should be? It looks like it was the victim of the upload problem (- becomes _).

Thanks again.

EDIT: Canguy, please don't reply to this post, just update yours.

First, I know there are no packages attached.

Osb-browser and related packages. It currently sizes the window too large for the Z, and apparently won't change. I'm trying to fiddle with the code to fix this. I should have a results sometime today.

EDIT: Oh yeah...Just to get your mouth watering, this is as fast as Dillo and has rendering rivaling Firefox.

File names should be NAME_unknown_armv5tel.ipk.

EDIT2: Never mind, it looks like it's OK...I'm attaching the packages (for 2.6.x kernels)

EDIT3: Incredibly unstable, won't resize under Fluxbox, but will under JWM, so YMMV. I'm going to look for a stable version.

EDIT4: There is an actual release at SF that I'll check out, but maybe not today.
