- (ooops, I've got a 4th   ) is there a guide anywhere to language conversion from scratch? If I buy a Z it'll be via a Japanese friend of mine, and I'll need to do the conversion myself.

no matter which distribution you'll install, you probably won't find an icon for the python interpreter - if you start the terminal and type "python" without quotation marks python'll (probably) be there and wait for your input.

nevertheless i'd rather use kopsis' image. it's the most recent version, relatively complete, including way more modules than riverbank or vanille. its homepage is here:

(just for your information: there is yet another python for zaurus available, this time especially for openzaurus: http://vanille.de/projects/python.spy - nevertheless i'd still go for kopsis' one)
riverbank has stopped looking after it and kopsis hopefully will keep us up to date

by the way, if you need a ide for writing python code on your zaurus and don't want a plain text editor, try visiscript. i'm quite happy with it.

dear people.
i've never used the japanese-english dictionary on board my c3000 - and i don't expect do so in the near future. although i know that it's supposed to be a really good one, i rather see it as wasted space on my machine.
now after three months with it i'm finally forced to unbrick my c3000 (hdd1 error, then unable to find some pcmcia file). several threads have dealt with this topic and i think that i'll manage (naivety or hope - watch this place for the harsh reality ...)
anyway. is it advisable to delete the onboard dictionary and what is the most sensible way? simply deleting the files on hd?

Accessories / Usb Host Cable

hi kchong,

what you need is a mini-usb-a (male) to usb-a (female) cable in order to plug standard usb devices like keyboard etc. in your c3000. maybe you should look at this thread:

i personally am very happy with my hama, though depending on where you live you might be better (cheaper) off with a different one.

Software / So, Who Has Bought Textmaker?

The most important change in this release is that it lets you easily use high resolution on 480*640 pixels devices like the SL-C series and the SL-6000.

Am I missing something? What is the actual difference in *reality* from before? It seemed to be hi-res before the fix.

i was asking myself the same question as textmaker was running perfectly on my c3000 and emailed textmaker. the response was:
"wenn bereits alles in der hohen Auflösung perfekt lief brauchen Sie den Patch
nicht zu installieren. Der Patch ist für Geräte gedacht, bei denen die
HighRes-Funktion nicht richtig funktioniert hat."
which means that if everything already works the patch is not necessary.

Software / Write Error When Saving Application Data

dear people here in this forum.

i have stumbled upon a strange error when i was working on my c3000 (converted sharp) with kaddressbook 2.0.11 (actually it also happened with 2.0.3) , but it is still there after the update): i can't save my addressbook - the message i get tells me that
"There was an error while attempting to save the address book. Please check that some other application is not using it." Actually no other application has been started by me (and I couldn't find anything running in the background that could possibly work with the address book)

i tried to access my address book via zeditor, changed some name and wanted to save it. et voila:
"outfile.open(IO_WriteOnly ) : Please investigate the file..."

then i noticed that i was also unable to save my passwordmanager (pwm/pi) 2.0.11 data, though it didn't actually message an error.

next strange thing is that some application's behaviour (to be changed on the desktop) like 'display with magnified screen' couldn't be changed any longer.

to me it seemed as if i was having only restricted access to my zaurus, slightly like logging in as a different user with less rights - on the other hand i wouldn't have any idea on how i should have managed to do this...

saving on sd is still absolutely no problem, though.

it's difficult to say, which other applications i have installed prior to noticing that strange behaviour. I definitely tried out the latest kino2 (with mplayer and bvdd), but after uninstalling them, nothing had changed. opie reader was installed, too, but 0.7h didn't really work, 0.7f didn't properly display .chm files and neither did 0.7g. again, after getting rid of it, still the zaurus refuses to save.

any help is really appreciated.
