C1000/3x00 General discussions / Gnumeric On My C1k
« on: March 11, 2006, 01:13:16 pm »
So can anybody tell me what I would need to do, (and if it's even possible), to install gnumeric on my C1K running the stock Sharp ROM?

I have some large spreadsheets that just refuse to open with Hancom Sheet.

Thanks in advance!

I think the answer is no, but has anyone been successful in using one of these 6Gb "iPod" drives by simply plugging it into the CF slot on the C1000? I think because it's IDE it won't work, but I'm curious why it will work in a CF card reader on a PC.

Thanks,

with the Sharp ROM? If so, did it work out of the package? Anything special required to get the 128Mb of memory recognized?

Before someone says do a search, I have searched and can't find anything specific to the C1K and this card with the Sharp ROM.

Are there any other CF Wifi cards that work on the C1K that also have on-board memory?

Thanks,

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Nand Restore
« on: July 02, 2005, 07:37:47 pm »
I've tried to put the NAND file in Backup_Files and / of both my CF and SD cards, at the same time, but each time I get the message

"file not exist
SYSTC100.DBK"

when trying to do a NAND FLASH RESTORE. I've even tried it naming it in uppercase and lowercase because the trisoft spells it in lowercase. Nothing works. Anybody have any suggestions??

Thanks,

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Locked Out Of C1k
« on: July 02, 2005, 11:11:18 am »
Trouble!!!

I remounted my / as rw. I umounted /tmp and removed the /tmp link to /dev/shm. I created a link /tmp to a directory on my cf card (ln -s /mnt/cf/tmp /tmp), and that worked fine. I then rebooted my Z but it will no longer boot past the CG Zaurus screen.

I tried going into single user mode and remarking out the line where /dev/shm is mounted on /tmp, and adding a line to where /mnt/cf/tmp was mounted on /tmp. But it didn't work, and when I finally booted back into single user mode the revised fstab file was gone, replaced with the original.

/tmp now shows up as a directory which I can't remove, and can't umount even with a umount -f command.

When I started I seem to recall that a df -k on /tmp showed NONE for a filesystem, but an ls -al in / showed /tmp as a symbolic link to /dev/shm/tmp. But after all I did tmp was missing from /dev/shm/, even though I didn't remove it. So I recreated it but the system still refuses to boot.

Note: my mount command does show /dev/shm    /tmp    ..... so it is mounting and I am able to copy into it, but the Z just won't make it past the CG Silicon screen.

Can someone with a C1K send me the output of a mount command, as well as what the /etc/fstab shows, and the contents of /dev/shm? Something is hinky here and I'm not sure what, but I think it's something to do with either what is now /tmp the directory, and/or /dev/shm/tmp the directory. My fstab is back to what it was to begin with, so I don't see what else it could be....

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Booting into the command line this is what I see:

mount
/rootfs on / type rootfs (rw)
/dev/root on / type ext2 (ro)
/proc on /prod type proc (rw)
/dev/shm on /tmp type tmpfs (rw)
/none on /dev/pts type devpts (rw)

then my two cards' mounts are listed. Same output if I cat /etc/mtab
###

cat /etc/fstab
/dev/root   /   ext2   rw   1 1
/dev/shm   /tmp   tmpfs 1 2
/dev/mmcda1   /mnt/card   auto   noauto,owner 0 0
/none    /dev/pts   devpts   gid=5,mode=620   0 0

###
ls -al /
/tmp shows up as a directory instead of what I believe should be a symbolic link to /dev/shm/tmp

I cannot umount it even if I use -f. I'm not sure how it became a directory because when I originally umounted /tmp as I explained above, I then created a symbolic link of /tmp to /mnt/cf/tmp

PROBLEM SOLVED THANKS TO STUBEAR AND A NAND RESTORE.

Has anyone used an SD Wifi card with the Sharp ROM on their C1K without having to tweak the kernel. Plug and play.

If so can you list the brand and model?

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Zaurus Charges But Won't Run On Full Battery
« on: June 11, 2005, 06:02:41 pm »
I've gone back and forth on these forums looking for an answer, finding things as unlikely as putting the battery in the freezer (however effective it might be in some cases).

My C1K will work fine as long as it's plugged into the wall. Charging light comes on, and eventually goes off, but as soon as I disconnect it I get the black screen of death. Both the original battery and the battery that I ironically just received the day after my Z bricked have enough power in them to help me into the service menus, but won't power the device, even when fully charged.

I can't seem to find anything anywhere that gives detailed instructions on how fix this. One of the grey market vendors was kind enough to try to help, but essentially has thrown up his hands and asked me to let him know what Japan says the problem is. My problem is I can't send it to Japan because I bought it used and so even though it is only a couple of months old I'm stuck basically with a system that must be used while connected to a wall socket.

My EA-72 is putting out 5.14vdc according to my Beckman Multi-meter (very accurate professional meter).

Now here's the strange thing. The brand new battery I bought and received yesterday measured out at 3.4v out of the box. I just took it out of the system after charging it and then trying to boot the system on it unsuccessfully. Immediately after it failed I measured it on the same Beckman meter and it measures out at 4.17v. So it is charging, but the system at this point just won't seem run on the ~4.2vdc that the battery puts out, or just won't run on the battery itself. So is it a charging problem or actually something else?

Sure was nice while it lasted,

For Sale / Wanted / Used C1k For Sale
« on: June 10, 2005, 08:26:51 pm »
I was wondering if any of you kernel/ROM meisters out there might be interested in buying my Z for a test system?

Situation is my Z suddenly apparently stopped being able to accept a charge, (possibly due to my use of the EA-72 adapter here in the USA). I can't return it because I bought it used, though it's only a couple of months old now (and it has been treated very well by both owners). But I like the unit so much I'll likely buy another one next week from a vendor who will also ship me one with the better EA-70 adaptor. The device works fine so long as it's plugged into the wall.

You would get the C1K, all the original packaging and even an extra EA-72 adapter that I ironically just received in the mail today along with an extra battery and a pentopia stylus, both of which I will keep for my next Z.

I was thinking of a price of $325 USD. Like I said, it works fine plugged in, and is gently used, so it would make a good and viable (not to mention inexpensive), test system for ROM builds and the like.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Taskbar Light Applet For Cxks?

Anyone know of an ipk that will put an icon in the taskbar/tooltray that will alllow the CxKs to turn the backlight on and off? Or at least off, with a screen tap or button push turning it back on?

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Usb Port Powered
« on: June 05, 2005, 07:59:15 am »
Haven't tried it yet (too lazy I guess), but does anyone know if, for example my 2.5" HDD enclosure would run without external power off the USB host port of my C1K? I have an 80Gb drive in it and it works fine on my laptop without external power (just using the USB port), and it would sure be nice not to have to carry yet another power cord around.

The enclosure has a power port in addition to the USB port, and an optional powercord and that connects to a PS2 port is available, but I never bought one, and of course neither my laptop nor my Z have a PS2 port anyway.

Ya know that nice, thick manual with all the pretty pictures and  wonderful Japanese writing in it that came with our Z's? Well, has anyone spent the time and effort to create an English version pdf of it?

C1000/3x00 General discussions / File Associations
« on: May 28, 2005, 10:45:13 pm »
Anyone know where I can convince my C1k to use Opera to open *.htm (and *.html) files instead of Netfront? In Windows of course we'd call this setting the file associations. Opera and Netfront refer to it as Mime types or Plug Ins, but this kind of setting needs to be set at the OS level, not from within the app. I'm sure any of the ROMS have the ability to set this but question is where?

Off Topic forum / My Own Personal Sob Story
« on: May 26, 2005, 11:49:41 pm »
I've got 100% positive feedback on eBay as a buyer (haven't sold anythng yet). Feedback score is 59 on 81 purchases. But Paypal won't confirm my shipping address because I don't trust them ( or anyone else for that matter), enough to send them a digital picture of my driver's license.

And I don't trust anyone (ie the Internet), to put my credit card number or other personal info out there in order to complete automated transactions. Haven't been burned  yet but did have to change my CC number when geeks.net got hacked a couple of years back.

So here's my sob story. I'd like to order an extra EA-B11 battery, and EA-72 AC Adapter, an external charger and a Pentopia stylus. But given that Sharp doesn't sell the C3K and C1K's over here in the States, there isn't a plethora of places where I can order those items, and of the ones that do ell them they all want enough info to build a financial clone of me, or they want to only ship to a confirmed Paypal address.  The former I won't allow, the second I can't provide because paypal refuses to consider the fact that there are other ways of confirming additional addresses, but won't because would have to change their way of doing things and actually start communicating with the company that owns them, eBay.

So what's a geek to do? I'm not going to compromise my principles for a battery, but then again I can't afford to travel to Tokyo to pay cash for one either. Dynamism is about the only way that offers a live transaction with just my credit card, but they are very expensive. Trisoft wants too much personal info, Streamline does too though they will take Paypal but only with a confirmed address. I was told they would take money orders or cashiers checks but so far I've not heard back. And the one place on eBay will accept my order with a promise to ship my items within a month. Very nice of them!

Does anyone know of a source for accessories that is neither too expensive, nor involves playing Russion Roullette with one's personal info?

Well there you have it. My own little sob story. If I'm approached by Hollywood to do  human interest story you can bet that one of my demands will be a supply of accessories that I don't have to sign for ;o) Short of that I guess I'm up the proverbial digital stream without a virtual paddle.

Regards, from poor little me,

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Impressions Of Open (star) Office
« on: May 25, 2005, 10:53:48 pm »
1. How many here have installed it on their 3K or 1K? On what ROM?
2. Is it as slow starting as it has traditionally been on Solaris and Windows?
3. If it any faster at opening large xls files than Hancon Sheet is (actually Hancom sheet on the 6K is essentially useless on spreadsheets larger than ~300Kb?
4. Is it too large to install onto internal flash? How much storage space does it consume?
5. Do the Macros work, most especially in Sheet? And are user-defined macros supported?
6. Does Sheet support the grouping and sorting functions of Excel. As an example can I group a range of rows or columns and have them collapsed in the same way they would be in Excel?

I know these questions represent and require a pretty extensive familiarity of the product, but I am hoping someone has it and would be willing to share their knowledge. The Z's make good toys, but for better or worse I really need mine to be as much a tool as a toy.

Thanks so much,

gdog

Getting on in years and it saves me having to remember which card I need installed when I want to do something in particular.

In my internal (Storage) flash right now I have consumed ~27.5Mb and have ~36.5Mb available. And in internal (Memory) I've consumed ~40.5Mb and have ~22.5 free.

Now I have no plans to go to Japan, and I have no Japanese friends (that I'm aware of). But even if I do they are smarter than I am and are bilingual. So the point is I don't have a need for the Japanese dictionaries that came installed.

Are the dictionairies still installed, snce I have run the Conics English conversion on my Z. If so, where, and how can I remove them? Can I get back some of my memory and/or storage by doing so, and will it leave my Z in an uncrippled state?

Thanks,

gdog
